We saw 3 luau performances: 2 given onsite at our hotel grounds (Fairmont Kea Lani) for corporate meetings plus this one at the Marriott just down the road. This one had the better quality performances, especially the fire dancers!
The buffet was good with plenty of selection of meats, fruits and local vegetables (blue sweet potatoes, poi), juices as well as adult beverages.
I’d recommend springing for the preferred seating: its only about $20/ticket more and you’re guaranteed a table in the first 2 rows as well as first access to the buffet.
Free ponchos were available during a brief light rain.
The setting is westward facing and so you’re treated to the sunset during your time there.

Ok, I’ve nothing to compare this to apart from a few Elvis films from the 60’s but I loved it. Yes, it’s commercial but you get to see a fantastic sunset, witness a great show and have some tasty food with included drinks. I’d recommend it if you’ve never been before as it’s fantastic entertainment particularly if you’re staying at the hotel.
I noted some people commenting about the costs but actually you’ll find that it’s pretty comparable to the hotel restaurant prices particularly when you consider the inclusive bar. I thought it was good value. Go, enjoy!

They were very accommodating, we arrived one hour early for standard seating so we could get excellent seats, and we were first in line. They offered to take our picture, and we agreed. After our picture was taken, we lost our place in line, when we were assured we could go back to our place in line. The management at Te Au Moana was notified and we were upgraded to premium seating. Excellent food across the whole buffet, intriguing acts and an excellent hostess.

Oh, how so terribly disappointed we were with our second time to the Te Au Moana Luau. For the cost of this Luau ($725 for a family of 4) it is NOT worth it!! Without question it was the LOWLIGHT of our 12 day trip to Maui. 😩😭
Now that the food service has changed to family style (vs. buffet) it was NOT good. What a bummer because the last time (July 2019) the food was a highlight. This time the pork was dry, the beef was undercooked, the noodles were hard, the desserts were underwhelming, and the drinks were watered down. Sadly, the best part of the meal was the bread.
Our kids were also sad that there were no activities this time (temporary tattoos, lei making,
Etc.) They loved that so much last time and I’m sure this is a Covid protocol now, but how can you charge more money for the Luau and offer less!?!
We enjoy the actual show very much and all the participants give a really good performance, but why pay the incredibly high ticket price when people just walking by can stop and watch the entire show for free. In fact we saw multiple families bring their own food and camp up on the hill by the pool watching the show and eating their dinner. (Notice in our one photo that you can stand/sit from where the photo was taken and watch the entire show for free)
What a terrible waste of money that we could have used to do so many other things on Maui. Shame on Wailea Beach Resort to charge so much for this Luau and have a far less enjoyable experience.

This was my favorite thing that we did in Hawaii. The food was good with a variety of meats. The timing of the show was perfect for us. They even took a break just in time for everyone to go get pictures by the water at sunset. The show was so interesting and our group of 11 with ages 15-50 really enjoyed it. I appreciated that it was longer because I felt like we got our money's worth. The music was awesome as well. We upgraded to the premium seating and it was worth it. With premium seating, you can go to a special line to get in that is a lot shorter. Overall, great memories.

Admittedly, I’m not a fan of luaus. And while this was no exception, I do have a responsibility to be fair, hence the 4-star rating. Food was exactly what you would expect if you have ever been to a luau, school, prison, the military, or anywhere else where food has to be prepared for a large number of people in a relatively short amount of time. Great? No. Could I do any better for so many people? Also no. It’s better than merely edible, but won’t be in your top 10 meals in Maui if there a week or longer. Service? Very good. No complaints. Show? Too long. Way too long. Several performances could be cut and it would be a better show with the “less is more” philosophy. Haka dance and fire dancers were outstanding. They carry the entire show. Before you decide to NOT attend this luau, re-read my first sentence. I have to admit, better than most overall.

Entertaining, but lacks cultural relavance as everything is so staged and scripted. Same four male dancers and seven female dancers throughout show. Nice, but not really worth the high cost. On a positive note, the Food was very tasty for a Luau. Everything except the steak...it was like rawhide. Desert was cookies, brownie, pineapple cake, and banana bread. All tasted terrific. The beverage service was very poor. It consisted of get your own Water, POG, and go to the bar for a small glass of Soda, small beer, and a two small specialty drinks. Nothing blended available, no pina coloda's, no lava flows, no magarita's, no martini's, no other mixed drinks, etc...just mass production easy drinks like Mojito's. Spent almost $1000 for preferred seating for family of 6 but would have been better spent an another Luau service like the Old Lahaina Luau. Much more value for the money.

I would say this is an average show that starts with dinner for first hour or do. Not what I was expecting. A couple years ago we had seen a free Polynesian dance show at the outlet mall, that included audience participation, and was very good. This was very similar, and included some audience participation, and showcased different types of Hawaiian dances.
I have heard some of the other luau’s are pretty spectacular, so might be better than this one. If you find this review helpful, please like this review.

There was a lot to love about this luau. Each family unit had their own table and were served family style (due to Covid). They brought SO much food! And if you liked something and wanted more, they’d bring you that too. All of it was delicious. Plus the open bar was available all night. The show itself was very good. They had to make a lot of adjustments with Covid, making all the performances, demonstrations, etc up on the stage, but it was well done. I loved being able to watch the sun set behind the stage, the weather was perfect. We actually walked over from the Four Seasons, and it was an easy walk. We’d go again!

The food was delicious and plentiful. The entertainment was also very good. This is not on the beach as described. We paid extra for premium seating and were in the second row but we had to sit for @ 2 hrs staring directly into the hot intense sun with no shade. Pretty uncomfortable. It was fun but not the more traditional luau if that was what you are looking for.

Does anyone know why the cost of this luau is now $225 per adult? Seems as if the price has increased dramatically just recently. For a family of 4, this seems very costly...
