Be sure to include this on your trip to or through Natchez, Mississippi! The home and its original furnishings were fabulous and the guide was able to offer information on any object to be seen. This was a highlight of our trip.

A visit to this house gives a glimpse of what life on a plantation might have been like. Although it was actually a country house just outside Natchez rather than a working plantation, the style of house, slave quarters and grounds are all reminiscent of life before the Civil War in the South.

I have visited this house before the Park Service purchased it. I'm glad that it is being preserved for future generations to view. If you are interested in old homes in the South, you have come to the right place.

Rebekah was our tour guide and she was amazing! Melrose has almost 80% of its original furniture, which offers a unique chance to glimpse into Natchez's golden years. The tour was great! We learned so much about the people who lived here and Natchez. Besides the main home, the grounds are lovely and in a slave cabin the NPS has... More

We toured the home on a holiday and the entrance fee was waived, that was nice! Our tour guide (I forgot her name) was well versed on the property, passionate about the history of the gorgeous home and furnishings and was a wonderful story-teller, bringing the house to life. She spoke in depth regarding the original owners and the elegant... More

We could just walk up to the Mansion. It was closed. From people who took pictures in the park we learned: not enough staff available. They currently open for visitors only 3 days a week. That information was not available when I did my research upfront.

We had just missed a tour so we had to wait for the next one but we are so glad that we did! This is an outstanding estate and Barney our Ranger guide was truly outstanding. He expertly told the history of the families weaving the history and culture of the time. He truly brought it to life with such... More

A grand old house and gardens and one that best typifies life when Natchez was one of the major centres of the States economy - many homes in Natchez but this is one of the better ones

I have completed a few plantation tours and I really liked this one. It may not have the murderous stories that some have, but it was still rich with interesting history. The guide was exceptionally knowledgable and offered just the right amount of information at a good pace. The fact that you can take pictures inside is so nice. Most... More

Nice house with interesting stories. We were shown around by a park ranger. She was very nice but a little dry for the grandkids. The recent renovations were apparently a major undertaking. Enjoyed the ground very much. Had the nicest grounds of all the homes we visited in town. They have a much larger staff than the other homes and... More
