I live about 700 vertical feet up on the mountain. It is one great back yard. You can hike or bike a hundred miles of trails and fire roads and not see a car, and you're 30 minutes away from a world-class city (and right on top of the best small town in America). Tam is like your favorite neighborhood... More

Mt. Tam has a spectacular array of views, paths and in winter waterfalls. Ocean views on one side and bay views on the other.

We live in a village a few miles north of San Francisco across the Golden Gare Bridge. We hike Mount Tamalpais often and our home is 300 feet from the hiking trails. A 45 to 60 minute hike, low impact, welcomes one to a clearing atop the mountain and an unparalleled view of San Francisco Bay. Tamalpais is the American... More

I went for a 13 mile hike with the Sierra Club of San Francisco and I had a blast. It was easily the highlight of my trip. The hiking is moderate to hilly with it being very cold due to the wind. I was glad that I brought a warmer coat. Thanks to my guide, I was able to hear... More

I spent an afternoon biking around Mt Tam and had a fun time. The trails are wide and allow for easy access while pedaling up hill. Coming down is so thrilling as the trails are very well maintained. Wonderful vistas around every corner. Please go you will not regret.

I drove up to Mt Tam after a day of hiking in Muir Woods. I wanted to catch the sunset off the top of the mountain. I knew it'd be great bot got even more than I bargained for. The drive up was awesome, anyone who enjoys narrow curvy roads with epic views will be at home there. Also saw... More

Parked by the Stinson beach community center then hiked up Matt Davis trail. Lots of steps and tight switchbacks. The trail follows a stream w multiple waterfalls. I turned left in the grassy opening to pick up the coastal trail. Fantastic views of the ocean. Plan for at least 2-3 hours and +1600 feet of climbing. Worth every step. Stop... More

Beautiful state parklands that abut Muir Woods. Take the scenic route, drive slowly, and enjoy the stunning views.

We enjoyed hiking here on Christmas Eve. There are many trails, adequate parking near various trailheads, and the only place we encountered many other people was at the summit. Many beautiful views may be enjoyed from trails.

The spectacular views of the whole Bay Area from the top of the East Peak on a clear day like we had make the long twisty drive up the mountain and short but steep hike well worth it. Definitely wear the right shoes since the trail turns very rocky and is slick in spots -- a walking staff would help.
