If you can physically handle a beautiful but very twisty car ride up to the parking lot, followed by a bracing walk up (and more importantly down) a steep 0.3 mile rocky path to the east summit, this is a highly recommended and very special...More

The drive to the ranger station is very windy, but beautiful. $8 to park, but I saw a bus stop there. Trail map is large and detailed and the trails are well marked. You'll find trails suitable for all skill-levels and distances.

Mt. Tamalpais state park is one of my favorite places to visit. It's got it all: ocean vistas, redwood forests, water falls, miles of hiking, decent campsites, and the best view of the entire San Francisco Bay Area. Try the short hike to Gardner Fire...More

On the way, we stopped at the supermarket and got some cheeses, nachos, guacamole, grapes and cold drinks for a picnic on the top of the mountain. The view is breathtaking. There's a circular path around the top. Services and water on site.

I live on the slopes of Mt Tam and walk out my back door to enjoy the endless network of interconnecting trails which are both "boot" and mountain bike friendly. Forest, open grass spaces, reservoirs and a few friendly folks strolling along. So close to...More

You are fast approaching God's annual wildflower show. Mt. Tam is filled with trails, and a map is usually available at the ranger station. Even on foggy days, you can usually reach the sun well before the summit. Dress in... More

No, it was on the Cataract Trail. The road to Bolinas is also very scenic, and I encourage exploring that too. I was fortunate to go at a time when we were having record rainfall.
