This museum is interesting to all ages. Adults and children alike will learn what medicine was like during the time of the Civil War.Teaches you how soldiers were treated on the battlefield and in make shift hospitals all over cities near where battles were fought. I would highly recommend this for children.

I wasn't sure what to expect when we went into the museum, but it exceeded my expectations. The displays are well done and really give you a feel for the medicine that was practiced during the Civil War. They had a section that dispelled some myths about medicine during the Civil War. The exhibits also highlighted the medical advances that... More

A must for anyone in the medical field, but 2 in my party of 3 were not but history buffs and I had to drag them out. Very well laid out and and more "hands on" than I expected. Nicely located in the town of Frederick with great shops and dining options very close by.

A great deal of text with much new information for this visitor who could rank around a 7 or 8 on knowledge of the Civil War and its details. The sequence of displays is grouped by topic with a strong introduction to the status of medicine in general at the outset of the war. It traces much of the innovation... More

If you are interested in the American Civil War this is a must see museum. 66% percent of American soldiers on both sides died of disease rather than of being shot. Its shocking to find out that remedies dispensed including swallowing turpentine! The subject is very well covered including the aspect of preservation of the dead when you had someone... More

My wife and I went to this museum because it was her idea, I must say it really does take you back into time. It was amazing the transformation of medicine in this country over the years. Please be advised you will need at least 2 hrs to view this wonderful place.

Frederick is close to Gettysburg, a fact which meant that all the local buildings became sites for treating the wounded from the battle. Significant medical advances for treating trauma were made during the war, and these are the material for the displays. Triage, anesthetics, a care process from the battlefield to the hospital - all depicted in the museum. If... More

Took me about 1 hour or so to go through this museum which highlights medical practices during the Civil War. The life size dioramas are excellent . Cost is reasonable for a private museum. Lots of artifacts from medicines to surgical tools to ambulances and clothing. Lots to read and there are some interactive exhibits. It easy to walk through... More
