The train station looks like it was just remodeled. There are several old locomotives on display in parking lot. The displays and exhibits were great to look at.

The Western America Railroad Museum is a very small museum but pleasant and well intentioned. It's too small to be worth a special trip unless you are in Barstow. It's located by the lovely Harvey House building (worth a look for its beauty). There is also the Route 66 Mother Road Museum in the complex. It was closed the day... More

We liked seeing the train cars and museum in Barstow. There is a wealth of history to learn about at the museum. It is nearby the very busy many multi-track railroad area of Barstow.

If you are hankering for a good Railroad Museum then stop by the Western America. We didn't know what to expect but we spent about an hour there learning some about Barstow but more about railroads in general. It is located in the Harvey House area which is a story all by itself that I find very interesting. We didn't... More

This is a unique little display which is a must-see if you're driving by the area and are a lover of trains. It's a small, easily accessible range of cars. Beware of the temperatures and the heat, though. The cars are hot as iron/steel, and your car will get hot in the desert heat. Make sure you have plenty of... More

This museum felt like working in an old railroad office. Lots of maps, office equipment, and railroad equipment. The room with the extensive date nail room was impressive. Lots of train cars outside to see up close.

I couldn't care less about this museum but we thought out train loving toddler might. They need to clearly mark the outside trains for danger and make them blocked off to patrons. Our son burned his leg on the stairs very badly. It was 100 degrees out and the metal train gets as hot as an iron. Keep your kids... More
