We enjoyed the visit of the house enormously - the tour guides had excellent knowledge of the author, his life and his work.

Emerson's Beautiful Historical Home
Dec. 2018
The wonderful docents give a very educational tour and share all kind of interesting information about Emerson, his family and friends. It is a lovely stop while exploring the area.

Limited parking
Oct. 2019
To see the house, we drove down a road stripped of pavement to the dirt to accommodate repair. There is little parking at the property. Fortunately, the Concord Museum across the street was closed for renovation so we parked there. We enjoyed seeing the house. People typically joined in the parlor and then dropped out when they'd seen everything -- strange setup, but effective. Instead of using a single docent, the speaker changed, depending upon what part of the house we were in.

Finally got here!
Sep. 2019 • Friends
On my last two visits to Concord, the house was not open on th day of the visit. As a retired English teacher, I was thrilled to finally visit. The house needs lots of work, and sadly one room wasn’t open due to a recent flooding issue. The docents were hospitable but not as engaging as others encountered at the other author’s houses we visited in New England. We did learn some interesting details about Ral;h Waldo and his family.

Still in family hands
Jul. 2019
Lots of original stuff as this home is still in family hands. Not allowed to take pictures inside. Good information about the family. Definitely recommend.

Don't Waste Your Money
Aug. 2019
What a disappointment this tour was! Extremely disorganized; people entering and leaving the tour at all different times. The "guides" were terrible. One practically whispered and neither seemed to know too much about Emerson or his house. It is still in the hands of Emerson's descendants and much of the furnishings are original but it didn't seem to help. They need some professional help to make this tour worthwhile.

This meant a lot to me...
Jun. 2019
Ralph Waldo Emerson is my favorite American author. Needless to say, this trip meant a lot to me. I especially enjoyed chatting with one of the guides (there were several) in the main room after the tour. She recommended Robert D. Richardson's biography of Emerson that they were selling in the gift-shop. I bought it and am very glad I did. It is outstanding (I recommend it to anyone who like biographies.) After reading the book, I have an even deeper appreciation for the home and many of the preserved items within it (such as the dollhouse that Thoreau helped the young Emerson daughters create.) The house is just beautiful, and all the same artwork that Emerson displayed on the walls is still there. Although I was already a big fan of Emerson before I visited, I learned a lot of new things during this visit. I will certainly be back.

Well Intentioned Docents are not enough !
Aug. 2019
The house needs better lighting plus docents who are prepared to give information in a measured, interested fashion. I have visited a dozen author houses & Emerson's ranks in the bottom 20%. Visit House of the Seven Gables for much better experience.
