Members of so many notable literary families are buried here -- Alcott, Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorn -- as well as many other people important to the history of early Concord. The authors' graves are often strewn with pencils and notes from admirers who visit the cemetery.

My wife and I wanted to visit this cemetery while we were in Concord. There is a very narrow unpaved road that climbs up the hill near the entrance. Do not try to drive on it.

Lovely cemetery to take a walk, then visit the resting places of some literary greats. Very hilly, so be prepared to get a workout. Serene and peaceful.

Really enjoyed seeing gravesites of the famous people and viewing this old cemetery. The day was lovely with sunshine but I wouldn't want to roam around in the dark.

Finding the graves is rather tricky. Avoid the steep road to the right of the main entrance. It is quite interesting that so many notable authors and their families are buried so close to each other
