Prior to this visit, we had been to the The Old Manse several times. Each time we had had a guided tour. However, our latest visit happened to be on a special no admission day. We were able to visit the house on our own. There was a guide in each room who told us about the room, and then... More

Regular visitors cannot enter The Old Manse. Clearly there are special functions here as tents are set up. The Old Manse is adjacent to the North Bridge.

Joe was a great tour guide. He is a true historian and provided many insights. There is such a unique literary and revolutionary history.

On my recent trip to Concord and Walden Pond, I almost skipped the Old Manse. It ended up being a favorite part of my trip. The garden and view were terrific, but being inside this beautiful, historic old family home was amazing.

Located just a stone's throw from the Bridge, This very historic house saw and heard everything that transpired that fateful day. The home of the The Rev. Emerson who saw service as The Chaplin of The Colonials, it then entered it's period as home to Ralph Waldo Emerson and Nathaniel Hawthorne and visitors such as Henry David Thoreau. Both Emerson... This is an amazing house to tour! Nathaniel Hawthorne spent his honeymoon here! I highly recommend a tour of this house.

This was one of the better tours we have ever had the opportunity to take in an historic home. The tour guide was friendly and offered great anecdotes about the past residents including humor, romance and historic facts. Other staff members were well informed and answered questions with an obvious passion for the history before us. The furniture was interesting... More

Walk where our country's literary greats walked, talked, ate, slept, and lived -- including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne and others. Our tour guide, Tom, was a delight -- offering up lots of information and interesting anecdotes as well as demonstrating a clear passion for American literature. We also happened to get a private tour (we visited... More

We toured the Old Manse this past week. Our tour guide was a hoot! We learned quite a bit about the different people who lived in the house over the years and about the house itself. You are able to see the North Bridge from the upstairs windows. Speaking of windows- there are still writings etched in the glass panes... More

Excellent tour! I was amazed at the number of famous people that have stayed in or at least visited this historic home. Ralph Waldo Emerson's family owned the home and it is where he grew up and lived with his wife and children. Nathanial Hawthorne and his wife also stayed here for approximately two years. Guests such as Louisa May... More
