Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We live in Umbria, so we are very familiar with local Italian medieval towns. We also love Sagrantino wine and have been in a bunch of wineries for tours and tastings in Montefalco, but somehow we never visited Montefalco’s historical center. We decided to make a day trip out of it and it was absolutely fantastic! We strolled the town (which is very small), went to the point of view, visited Complesso Museale di San Francesco with stunning frescoes (please don’t miss this hidden gem), sat down for a lovely aperitif on the main square and then had a fabulous dinner at Locanda del Teatro! Such a fantastic day! There are plenty of wine stores (we compared prices for some wines that we knew and they were a bit higher than the same wines at the local supermarket or directly from the winery, so we didn’t buy anything), gift shops (with magnets, ceramics from Deruta and other things) and lovely cafés. Charming town that I highly suggest to visit.

It was way beyond my expectations !!
Yes, this small town was a real surprise: we went to Montefalco just to visit some wineries, but we fell in love with its borgo.
It definitely deserves a visit.

Picturesque centre of town with good selection of restaurants and bars - plenty of places to sit out and take in the atmosphere whilst sitting in the sun

The historic center of this village is very nice and quaint, including squares and alleyways, quaint shops, surrounded by walls ... really not to be missed if you are in the area

Linger through the labyrinth of ancient streets… take time for a coffee, a gelato, or a leisurely lunch. Oh, and the wine… Keep pouring! Truly a treasure that must be photographed!

Another Italian hill town which appeared to decorate many of its shop entrances with pink bikes covered in flowers -quite pretty. We visited about 10.00am got a great park just outside the wall, most shops were just starting to open and thus it was quiet and peaceful as we walked the streets. Some very pretty street scapes, great views of the Italian countryside. Lots of opportunities to taste the local produce. Very enjoyable.

We went here at lunchtime and dined outdoors (pizza of course) by the ancient cobbled streets of Centro Storico. We had to park below the hill and walk in. The square offers stupendous views We were lucky to have a clear day. All the hilltop towns are remarkable and this one is special. We enjoyed the local Montefalco red wine with lunch, later bought a bottle to take home. We stayed a week in nearby Macchialunga, a tiny village. Good rates and very comfy. We did day trips to all the hilltop villages from there.
