Went with friends to the Altria Theater to see Mamma Mia which was in town for a two day engagement. We sat in the 2nd row of the Grand Tier a little to the right of center. We had a great view of the stage...More

Just seeing this architecturally significant building is a treat but there are several caveats. Some seats are in dead zones where it is hard to hear and some seats are REALLY cramped for leg room - ie, top balcony where you would have to be...More

This theater has a lot of good shows and events, and I really enjoy them, but the seats are crowded, the aisle stairs are steep, and the elevators are insane.

Since this place was literally on the VCU campus, it's a nice attraction for college students as well as family. They have a nice ballroom underneath and the interior architecture is wonderful. It's a shame they closed their cafe because it was a nice spot...More

The interior is really beautiful, and I love that there were bathrooms on every floor. Unfortunately, my knees were up against the chair in front of me the entire performance, and I'm not even tall. I had to turn sideways and lean into my friend's...More

Definitely worth checking out the inside if you can, especially to see a show! The decor is amazing all over the walls. It makes you feel as if you are in an exotic place like Istanbul. Look up at the ceiling once you are in...More

We attended a wedding at this venue. The affair was just beautiful. There were approximately 300 guest and there was tons of space. They had so many bars set up that you never had a line. The staff was excellent! At dinner your water glass...More

I recently visited the theatre for a fabulous musical (Beautiful - the Carole King story). It was a beautiful experience (pun intended) overall. Great acoustics. Easy navigation (lots of helpers). Parking garage right next store (but don't forget - they only take cash!). The down...More

We attended the Beautiful show this weekend. The theater has been re furbished a few times so it retains some of the history, and has some modern conveniences. We found the eats OK and similar to what we've had in other theaters as far as...More

I have visited the Altruria theater many times over the years while attending a wide variety of events there. It is important to note that the renovations made over the past two years have greatly enhanced the theater without degrading its grandeur. For example, the...More

Sadly, it's not open as a venue to view. Take a look the next time there's something there you might want to see! (I just checked the website to make sure there are no special days when one can simply visit.)

Virginia law is no smoking within 25 feet of an entrance. In my many visits to the Altria, I don't recall seeing smokers on the sidewalks around. There is a nearby alley and a nice open park across the street where you could... More
