A national and state historic landmark, this performing arts center was originally opened in 1928 as an elegant and lavishly designed Loews movie palace and has since been restored to its former splendor. I've been to CenterStage several times over the last few years. The times I have been it has always been for a private show for a private dance company of some sort. Once was for a ballet school recital and once was for a CenterStage cooperative show put on with dancers from multiple private and public elementary schools. The building... More

I attend about 6 performances per year. I enjoy the building architecture and its historical value very much. The Richmond CenterStage is located in the downtown area. Get there early enough to get parking on the street nearby. Parking across the street from the CenterStage is $10.

I go to the Virginia Opera performances there and find the experience quite enjoyable. The acoustics are good and the libretto is easy to read from where we sit . A nice venue. Take a jacket or sweater, though, because sometimes they get the air conditioning too cold.

Went for a TEDxRVA event this time. 9am-5pm a long time but still very enjoyable. We have been here for plays, for the opera, for the symphony, etc. A great old theatre.

I hear it was originally a Lowe's theater long ago. It is elegant, a mix of classic and nostangic. It has been kept up well. Seats are comfortable. Shows are mainly special events. Lots of parking nearby, for about $10. Many restaurants in the area, but book a table in advance because they fill quickly on event evenings.

CenterStage is a refurbished movie theatre (a Loews) from the 1930's. Now it hosts a variety of shows, concerts, etc. It is gorgeous inside; one could visit for the architecture alone. Also, it is reported to be haunted, but I've never seen a ghost in the many visits I've made over the years.

I have been lucky enough to see a few performances here from the Richmond Symphony and Richmond Ballet - so much talent and a beautiful theater to experience it in. Highly recommend The Nutcracker!

The Nutcracker was great, professional, funny, sad and overwhelmingly wonderful. But beware of row J, First Dress Circle. The seats were squeezed up against row in front of us. I'm 5'7" and my knees dug into the seats in front of us. The seating in row J was not made for adults, period. The seats in front of us had... More
