This mill and ironworks has a spot in several important time periods. Most evident is the Civil War era but also WWI. 3 floors of exhibits and history come alive in a very historic nook of he city. It is well done with very interesting...More

This National Park Service facility tells the history of the war thru displays, many of them interactive; and videos. The slant was in favor of the victors. They devoted a lot of space to the war on the Homefront, and to slavery and emancipation. The...More

Reading about things to do in Richmond on TripAdvisor it was unclear about what the Tredegar Iron Works had to do with the American Civil War Museum. The Iron Works was the largest producers of cannons and munitions in the South during the Civil War....More

Tredegar was an interesting old building and the photographs showing the history were informative. However, the speakers which were supposed to work to highlight a display weren't working which was disappointing. The Volunteer only wanted to talk about 'the fire' and couldn't answer my questions.

We toured this well preserved historical site and did the tour with the well educated guide. We were glad we did and would recommend it.

This a nice little museum and it is free. They have another museum connected to it that does charge a fee. The bottom floor is a gift shop. The second and third floors contain artifacts from the civil war. Also, there is a small movie...More

The exhibits are informative and useful. If you're not willing to pay an admission fee to the American Civil War Museum, you'll be just fine with the NPS Visitor Center (especially the second floor).

This was our 1st stop on our week of bicycling, plantations and exploration. The NPS has done a nice job, as usual, telling the story. Be sure to visit and then go for a nice walk to Belle Isle.
