Even though Poe didn't live here, many of the items from his childhood as well as many of his writings and furnishings are there. They conduct a reading of a short story in the garden you should go to. Well worth admission.

We've actually visited the museum twice. It's in an old, tiny-roomed house in Richmond, with a fun gift shop at the entrance. You twist around up and down to explore the site, part of which is done in a lovely little contemplative garden between buildings....More

It isn't the BEST Museum that we have visited, in fact the exhibits are pretty tired & dusty. The lady who sold the tickets in the Gift Shop was very nice . The old house & gardens need a little more TLC.

We stumbled upon the Edgar Allan Poe Museum accidently during our first trip to Richmond about a year ago. It's a quick self-guided tour through a small complex of buildings near downtown Richmond. Very interesting story of his life and career. He's always associated with...More

I was interested in going after having seen a picture of the gardens. It is the oldest house in Richmond, even though Poe never lived there. He lived in the neighborhood. I would recommend arriving when they have guided tours at 11, 1, and 3....More

The Edgar Allen Poe museum was adorable, smaller for a museum but had lots of his first edition work, his belongings, his letters. It features in each section a part of his life. A childhood / family room, his early years, his masterpieces and even...More

The museum has on display some artifacts, writings, and even a hair sample from Poe. There are two black cats that roam freely about the grounds of the several small buildings that hold the displays which add to the mystique. I just wish that they...More

FYI - The adjacent free lot is kinda small, and street parking can be challenging to find. Just know that you might find a spot right away, but on a busy day you could be searching a little harder and a little farther. We... More
