You can only come to the cave by boat. We were a party of 10 people so we had rented a private trip to see all the beaches. We ended with a visit to the cave. Good guidance in English. If you are visiting this coastal route then a visit to the cave is recommended.

Impressive grotto directly by the sea. You need an admission ticket, which you can buy, among others in the port of Cala Gonone. The cave is well lit and can only be entered with a guide. Guided tours are in English or Italian. Inside are impressive dripstone formations. Photography is allowed only without the flash. It is a little bit cold in the cave.

Nestled on the east coast of Sardinia, the Grotta del Bue Marino is a truly breathtaking natural wonder.

This extraordinary karst formation, accessible only by sea, offers a unique experience between history, nature and legend.

The name comes from the monk seal, once inhabitant of these caves. Although rare to spot today, its spirit still pervades these magical places.

The entrance by boat is already an adventure in itself, but it is inside that the real magic is revealed. The large rooms, adorned with stalactites and millennial stalagmites, create surreal settings. The play of light between the blue of the sea and the calcareous white of the walls produces breathtaking color effects.

Of particular interest are the remains of rock carvings, evidence of ancient populations. Experienced guides enrich the visit with stories and curiosities, making the experience not only visual but also cultural.

The Cave of the Sea Ox is not only a tourist stop, but a journey through time and the uncontaminated beauty of nature. An unmissable experience for those visiting Sardinia, which leaves indelible memories and a sense of wonder towards the natural works of art of our planet.

Departing by boat from the beautiful town of Cala Gonone on the eastern coast of Sardinia, you arrive at the entrance of the Bue Marino cave. It is a splendid succession of five halls connected by a metal pavement. Visits are always guided. The boat ride and entrance to the cave are purchased separately.

Premise: to go there you have to take a boat among the many available in the area: you can also do the combo and stay all day in Cala Luna, or after the cave you go home.

By Sea Ox we mean the Monk Seal that until the 80s nested in this area, then disappeared because of mass tourism (the man destroys everything for his pleasure (but this is another story) and the name is given by the shepherds who heard the seal gave it this name.

The cave is sometimes fossil but mostly alive and well: you go for about a km and very fascinating: apart from a few bats, because of the salt water, there are no fish or other animals but only the spectacle of clear waters, silence and what mei centuries has created the flow of water from the mountain.

When there is a lot of rain, in winter, the level of the inland river, which descends from an underground structure of caves long km, rises by more than 5 meters flooding almost the entire cave... in summer the river is practically a stream and you can see it must the fresh waters sink into the salty ones of the sea...

Recommended because the caves always make you dream and fantasize!!!

We walked from the beach at Cala Fuili, told that it wa 40 minutes, it took us a bit longer but we carried a baby with us and had to stop for looking for the route. It is not very clear how to walk and where the grotta is. But if you follow the red/white signs and keep on following the path you will arrive.
The grotta really disappointed us after this long and quit hard walk. It is small and we couldn’t go further in. Maybe it is different then where the boats come?
The way back was easier and we did that in 40 minutes. Bring enough water and prepare for soms climbing!

This cave is truly beautiful, and the kilometer walk through it is magical. It has a nice selection of stalactites, but the main focus is on understanding how a river slowly carved out a system of over 70 kilometers of caves by the sea. The guide was very good and gladly answered all our questions.

It's not clear who you should go to: we booked the visit well in advance at 4pm on 2ticket. We arrived where the navigator took us at 3.30pm.
But we didn't understand where to start... we arrived at the port, but too late because they told us that we only had the ticket for the visit but we also needed one for the boat and the boat was leaving.
Moral: we missed the visit.
Well done, well organised

Visiting the cave was a really wonderful experience, especially when the temperature outside hits 35 degrees since early morning. Direct boat. Easy walk. The tour inside the cave is very well organized. Great guide both in english and italian. The thcket for Bue Marino Cave is also valid for visiting the Archeological Museum in Dorgali.

I was determined to reach the northern branch of the cave on foot, but it was complicated: the path is not signposted and when asking for directions the locals reply that it is dangerous and that they don't know the route, they advise against venturing on foot and prefer instead the boat tour. But now I wanted to get there on foot: the path is the same as that from Cala Fuili to Cala Luna. At the first crossroads, after a few minutes of walking uphill, you have to turn left, following the path which from then on will no longer be signposted. During the walk
you can glimpse spectacular views and after about 30 minutes of a rather difficult (but doable) path you reach an iron staircase which after a few minutes leads to the entrance to the northern branch of the cave. Unfortunately, however, this entrance is currently closed, so we had to give up.
Despite everything, it is a nice walk and we hope that sooner or later they will reopen the passage from the north too and mark the walking route again!
