Situated outside University Hall is the famous bronze statue of John Harvard known as the “statue of three lies.” Although it is inscribed “John Harvard, founder, 1638,” the statue does not depict John Harvard, he was not the founder, and the date is not correct....More

When we visited Harvard we went to see the John Harvard Statue and touch his foot for luck. It was very busy with lots of people crowded around the statue. Eventually we managed to get to the statue and have our photograph taken.

We were passing through Harvard from Zinneken’s at night on our way back to our inn and happened by here. Since then, I’ve learned that some people think rubbing his shoes will bring good luck. We didn’t do that so that explains much of life...More

If you take a tour, you will discover that this statue actually isn't the likeness of John Harvard. Kind of interesting that people have been rubbing the foot of an imposture.
