The Castello di Bracciano - a stone's throw from Rome - is one of the most impressive castles in Italy, Europe and the world. Completed in 1485 by the Orsini family, around an existing 12th century Vico fortress, it is one of the few renaissance castles in Italy that - thanks to the Odescalchi family - is open to the public. It also plays host to numerous weddings, galas and important cultural events throughout the year.

We stayed in Bracciano and on our last day visited the Fortress. If you want a tour I advise you to check first and if you only understand English then book the English speaking tour guide, also check that there is no filming as the Fortress was closed for two days during the week when we first visited. Our guide... More

We visited this castle whilst staying in Bracciano. They do hourly tours, which cost 7 euros 50, which we felt was great value. Our guide was funny, and entertained us with tales of the previous inhabitants, and what they got up to! We could visit a good deal of the castle, and go outside where there were amazing views down... More

Our guide for the tour was excellent. She spoke perfect English and was very insightful in the history and purpose of this incredible castle. A must-see if you ever visit Rome!

We took a guided tour of the Orsini Castle. Our guide gave bits of castle history and media displayed in monitors emphasized movies set in the premises. To tell the truth, it became a bit repetitive as we went room after room in the castle, but it was all worthwhile when we reached the top of the Castle wall. What... More

This was a wonderful experience. I think one of the most impressive and majestic medieval structures i have ever seen. It looks well preserved and absolutely mysterious. The ticket costs 7,50 and the visit is guided.

Very charming, well worth the long train ride from Rome. (do note that the metrobus passes are valid only up to Cesarno) After you exit the train station, turn right and walk for about 5 min towards the main road and left upon hitting the main road. Once on the main road, you"ll see the beautiful castle. Was advised upon... More

After many years of living in Bracciano as a child before moving to the US, I came back with my wife (who is American) to show her the castle. We were in a group that was mostly non Italian speaking (Germans and Americans). Nowhere did it say the tour would only be in Italian so when the guide started speaking,... More

The castle where tom cruise and katie holmes got married is maintained and owned privately. The family owning this lives in Rome so the entrance is via a guided tour where no photos can be taken inside. It retains many original features both architecurally but also with regards to furniture inside although some of the furniture was brought in from... More
