Highlight of our trip in Iceland
Jun. 2021
My friend and I came here expecting a fun horseback ride, but what we got is SO much more! We got to meet multiple horses, spend some time with them, we went on a breathtaking ride with Hrafnhildur who was very sweet and kind to us and made us feel at home. We were also accompanied by two very happy dogs making our time most memorable. I loved Iceland and can't stop talking about it but this was definitely the highlight of the trip. Hrafnhildur also gave us some delicious rye bread she made herself using heat from the hot spring! with butter and Hot chocolate. It was so perfect. We've passed other horseback riding tours places on our trip in Iceland, but we think we got really lucky because Sturlureykir has to be THE BEST ONE.

Great time!
Oct. 2019 • Friends
We had a wonderful time here! I was a little apprehensive about riding a horse again after so many years, especially since I have bad back problems and I am in my late 60’s. I was traveling in Iceland with friends from college and we decided to do this. The people at the Farm are all very friendly, nice and helpful My friends and I all felt safe on the horses and had a blast! The tolt gait is so smooth and it didn’t hurt my back at all! After the ride, the owner served us delicious homemade rye bread with butter. Loved it! We all highly recommend this adventure!

Surpassed Expectations

A great insight into the history & importance of the Icelandic Horses. The farm was interesting, the horses lovable (not even a horsey person), the staff friendly & informative, & the best rye bread ever.

A great surprise
Jan. 2020 • Friends
We picked up a brochure while driving in the area and decided to stop. Even though it was 5 minutes before closing time, we were welcomed and shown videos about the horses, given a stable tour, and then had coffee and homemade rye bread. This family clearly loves the farm, their work with horses, and having international visitors. It was one of our highlights during a week of wonderful experiences in Iceland.

My new "happy place" memory
Dec. 2019
What a lovely ride! This is a family-owned farm, nothing commercial about the experience. The horses are treated almost as well as the spoiled dogs we left at home, and from arrival to departure we had an unhurried and hospitable experience. I believe Herra was the young lady who took us out -- she was patient with us, especially me, the novice in the group. We had a slow ride along the river down to a hot spring. It was during a snowfall and everything was soft, blanketed, and peaceful. Then we had an informal chat while watching videos on the Icealndic horse and eating their geothermally baked bread with hot chocolate. We all walked away enriched.

Amazing experience
Nov. 2019 • Friends
We had a really fun time visiting the Sturlureykir Horsefarm during a 2-day tour of West Iceland via Arctic Adventures. The owner of the farm is very passionate about Icelandic Horses, and you learn a lot about these majestic creatures and get up close and personal with them, a “selfie” with them is a treat, such gentle horses. Coffee/hot cocoa afterwards with some fantastic homemade (in a geothermal oven) rye bread. Oh... and did I mention we were serenaded by Tarzan the rottweiler? Visit him now before he gets really big and decides to embark on a music career.

Great memories made here. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
Oct. 2019
Really enjoyed being part of this family for a few hours. Truly, that is what I felt like. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the farm and I acquired a new understanding of how important it is to maintain the Icelandic breed. Wish more countries would feel compelled to honor their heritage and maintain the environment.

Where happy horses live
May 2019
Happy horses (and of course happy people) live on this farm. The atmosphere is extremely friendly, the animals are calm and in very good conditions. The farm tour itself is a special experience, while riding in the "Icelandic wilderness" across the river and near the geyser is just magical. Highly recommend!

Lots of fun horsing around!!!
Oct. 2019 • Couples
We were greeted by some very friendly and extremely curious canines! The two ladies who looked after us were lovely; we were taken round the stables and given time to groom and get to know our horses before hopping on and going on our tour around the local area. Views were beautiful. Warming hot chocolate followed along with the most delicious homemade Rye bread we have ever tried!! Felt really welcomed and looked after the whole time. It was also really easy to make our appointment as we messaged them on Facebook in advance and received a reply almost immediately.

Learn about the very unique Icelandic horse
Sep. 2019
We stopped by to visit this great horse farm. The horses are so friendly and have such a great rapport with the owner. We enjoyed getting close to them, petting them, and taking pictures with them. The horse farm is very impressive and their horses have won awards. Enjoyed learning about their unique gaits and a bit of history.

We were offered some homemade rye bread that she steamed in the ground. Never tasted such wonderful rye bread before!

There was also a very friendly momma dog with her 6-week old puppies. Oh my, they were so cute!
