This is a beautiful example of an early Icelandic church. The location is stunning. You can also enjoy an original sod house where you can also look inside it. As you can see from the small number of reviews, not many people know about this...More

The church stood out as one of the prettiest ones we visited. As well, there is a lot of history surrounding this location. The information center and excavation around the church offers more information that provides more information on the religious background of Iceland. Overall,...More

The big new cathedral is interesting, but even more so for me was the sod church by its side. Definitely worth a stop to see something a bit different.

After so many geysers and lakes and waterfalls and hot springs, you really need to see something else as well to be able to still fully enjoy the Icelandic nature. The Skalholt Cathedral is a great place to stop. The former religious and cultural capital...More

Made a nice stop here and a change from all the waterfalls, geysers and glaciers! The cathedral is simple in it's beauty and the turfed church adjacent was interesting. We had a nice picnic stop with lovely views and enjoyed a coffee in the cafe.

We stopped here on a whim. The church is lovely. Beautiful organ and stained glass. Striking altar mosaic. Older original church (adjacent) is also neat. Worth a quick stop. The surrounding area is beautiful.

Nice little stop on a mini tour of the smaller attractions in the area towards the end of our holiday. Interesting place, plus some amazing views in all directions.

Nice church. When I entered it, there was a man and woman singing beautiful songs. It was highly appreciated. There is a reproduction of a Icelandic historical church next to it that is worth checking.

It's not just the cathedral that is beautiful, with its style quite pure and modern, next to a little house covered in grass (hobbits?), but it's also the view. It's a good place to relx, take a break and some photos. It's not a must-do,...More
