Painstakingly rebuilt after being disassembled in the 1960s, this Greek Revival masterpiece saw Lincoln serve as a lawyer and legislator. In 1858, Lincoln delivered his landmark "House Divided" speech in the Capitol's Representatives Hall.

If you are downtown and have the time to see the Old State Capital it gives you a comparative to the new Capital building. If you do go take the guided tour.

$5.00 is the suggested donation. I enjoy history so I really enjoyed this. It's in the area of the Lincoln library and museum. It was easy to find. We thought it was closed until we opened the door. We found several of the attractions like...More

The whole state building has been restored and is very interesting. We enjoyed walking through the rooms Abraham once had long ago. A lot of history is in Springfield

We have visited a number of State Capitol buildings in the USA, but this was our first 'old' Capitol Building. Although it was only used for about 25 years, it was at an important time in American history

It is great they keep this old courthouse going since Abe argued cases here. Sure it pale in comparison to today's large courthouse, but they have done a great job keeping it for historical purposes. A self guided tour with no pressure for donations.

Nice to see the architecture of an old, historic Capitol. Wear walking shoes and can walk to the newer Capitol.

This place is impressive! Springfield has really paid attention to detail when it comes to capturing what political life was like in the time of Lincoln. You can tour this place yourself or take the guided tour. It's free, but there is a donation box.

The Old State Capital was an interesting place to visit but hard to learn much (at least on our visit). It started with not even being able to tell if it was even open from the street (nobody much going in or out). Once we...More

Right in downtown Springfield is the Old State Capitol. Our docent Stephanie did a fantastic job taking our group through this historic building. Do not miss it!

I believe they do. You will have to go up a set of stairs to get into the building. Once in, there is an elevator to the second floor.
