This is a nice little bonus if you go down to see the Locks. The garden is nicely maintained, easy to stroll through, and close to food, activities, and a great water side view of Seattle.

Nothing much though. It is nice but not too big. I think after I visited the Rose Garden at the Zoo, this park does not seem worth the visit. However, it is nice, quiet piece of land where you could enjoy it by yourself. It is very closed to the Fish Ladder and the Locks.

I give it three stars because we were here on a Sunday afternoon and heard a free 1 1/2 concert by a good local big band with two really good vocalists. The botanical park is well named because it is not a garden. It is truly a park, and it is serene, calm, shady and very pretty. What it doesn't... More

One of my favorite places while growing up in Seattle. I recently found it's still one of my top 10 favorites in Seattle after 47 years, such great memories. The botanical garden is on the grounds of the Ballard Locks and is a very peaceful and relaxing environment. It is owned/run by the US Army Corp of Engineers so it... More

This is unique because of the locks but as far as gardens go, Seattle has many more beautiful ones. Worth checking out but you will find more types of plants elsewhere.

Read a few favorable reviews on Carl S. English Gardens and made a trip to see for ourselves on a sunny day. We were really surprised at the overall clutter and sloppy look, exposed irrigation hoses, no ground cover, etc....appears like the gardeners took the season off or simply lost the attention to detail that used to be present here.... This beautiful and peaceful setting is a great place to spend the day. The plants are colorful and plentiful. Plants are labeled and some are numbered. A brochure tells you what the numbered plants are and gives descriptions as if the plant was writing it. "I am small but with great character...." Right next to the garden are the Chittenham... This was a lovely area to stroll in and around while visiting the Ballard Locks. The flowers were gorgeous! There were many varieties, including two small rose gardens and loads of lilies. While we were visiting, the Saturday afternoon band was playing and there were a number of dog walkers. The weather was perfect and it was a pleasant way... More

Right next to the Chittenden Lock, this is a lovely place to relax. The walks are well laid out,. It's and realxing. Not as many varieties of flora as I expected, and the map is not particularly helpful, but fun anyway.

This park began its transformation in 1931 from a construction site's graveled extension to the lovely English-estate-style garden it is today, thanks to gardener Carl S. English Jr. At least 500 plant species, from roses to redwoods, thrive here. The beautifully maintained grassy slopes beckon to be enjoyed and we saw a few visitors sprawled on the ground under huge... More
