About
Stretching over 2.5 miles, this long beach strip is one of the most popular beaches in Seattle, partly because it was featured in the film 'Sleepless in Seattle'. This nostalgic seaside town is a great escape from the city, just a short water taxi ride from downtown Seattle. Here, you can cycle down the bike paths, enjoy majestic views of the Olympic Mountains, join a free tour of Alki Lighthouse on summer afternoons, take a photo with a Statue of Liberty replica, and have some fish and chips at Spuds—Seattle’s first fast food restaurant. See the beach from a different vantage point on a harbor cruise or seaplane flight over Seattle. – Tripadvisor

- Alecx JMontgomery, Illinois2 contributionsPeaceful and beautifulSuch a peaceful and beautiful beach , it was fun to get a water taxi , Just as a caution always ask when is the last water taxi back . The schedule times don’t always apply . The food on the island was great .Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 25 September 2023
- Marsha555 contributionsNot a beach to swim at.I went with hopes of seeing sea wildlife, but there was none. Great place to take a walk along the sound (not open ocean). Restaurants and shopping on other side of street. Clean park, seems safe too. Water is murky and lots of seaweed, but ferries and ships stir it up. Again, not an open ocean beach. I would not swim there and only one dog was swimming. Kayak rentals etc might be fun to do though.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 September 2023
- Tabatha PHanoi, Vietnam119 contributionsAlki Beach on a WhimVisit with family in Seattle took us to Alki Beach Park. We walked a distance people watching. Enjoyed the 10th year Pride Festival. People were enjoying themselves; jogging, rollerblading, soaking up the sun rays, playing volleyball and listening to music. Several restaurants and bars.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 September 2024

Nice little stretch of beach to stroll along that offers great views of the water and a Seattle city view. We stopped for a bite to eat a great Mexican restaurant. Glad we visited.

This beach was easily accessible for us as we were staying in West Seattle and only had to walk, although it was a steep decent to the beach and then a steep climb after! Despite it being winter, there were still a number of people out, and even quite a few playing volleyball at the public volleyball nets. The path behind the beach offers good space for walking and cycling/skating and is lined by lots of little shops and eateries; we stopped at Starbucks for a coffee and a rest. At the southern end of the beach there is a lighthouse which is worth walking to, although it isn't that impressive. The views in general from the beach are quite nice and I would definitely like to return in the summer if I can.

On my recent trip, I visited Seattle with a local, and she showed us all the cool places outside of downtown Seattle.
This beach was cool, and it had an amazing view of Seattle. It takes a bit to get out of downtown, but it's worth the drive if you have time. I enjoyed seeing Seattle from the other side of the water.

My husband, son and I took the West Seattle water taxi to Alki Beach toward the end of our one week vacation in Seattle. We had already done the Harbor Cruise so seeing Seattle from West Seattle was not materially different. I was disappointed in Alki Beach, though. A large portion of it was covered in seaweed and smelled really bad. Once we walked down to the cleaner part, it did not look very appealing to get onto the sand or get in the water....we ended up passing on the experience.

We rented bikes (1 for 4 people) for a great outing. My sons loved seeing all of the amazing cars everywhere. We ate dinner at an authentic street taco stand right on the beach. Parking on the street was a mess. They need more parking lots to accommodate.

We had dinner at Alki Beach on a hot Thursday night. We were planning to take a walk along the promenade and had allowed extra time, which was fortunate as parking is a nightmare and pretty much forced a walk. Anyway, the area is very pretty and well maintained. The sunset was great. There were quite a few people on the beach. Some were in the water but I think it was very cold.
This is a very nice spot.

This little strip of trail/roadway is wonderful. Plenty of parking (which is free, a huge boon in Seattle), and it's a stunning view. Bring something to cover your ears. Bring something to cover your ears. One more time, bring something to cover your ears. I've been to plenty of beaches before, but I'm not sure I've gone to any that are quite as cold as this one (although that may have just been the one day we went). Lots of food within convenient walking distance.

Perfect place if you are looking for some ocean feel but don't want to drive for hours to get to Westport and similar. Yes, it can get pretty busy but today it was just the right amount of lively, quirky, very Seattle-like, and offered some gorgeous views and a summer beach town vibe.
Tip: if you are looking for something quieter and more serene, my favorite part of the area is actually beyond the Alki Point Lighthouse - around Constellation Park. There you won't be met with crowds and can just enjoy the sprawling views of the water.

This is a great beach to visit. Their are amazing views of Seattle from this beach, and depending on the time of year you can occasionally see whales from the beach. This is a great place to spend the day and enjoy fantastic scenery, as well as their are countless restaurants in the area.

We had only one day in Seattle, so our friend took us out to a beach! Alki beach is about a 30 minute drive from the airport. It was a warm sunny day but water too cold to go in. We ate lunch at a nearby restaurant. There are plenty of choices!

This is about West Seattle in general. If taking the water taxi in from Seattle, how is the Publix transportation around West Seattle? Thank you!
Written 13 August 2022
I'm not too sure about public transportation but they seem reliable as far as I can see. I had used uber for majority of my trip and majority of the restaurants are on one straight row so we did a lot of walking to and from.

Are there any designated places on the beach for barbique? I saw a group sitting arround a fire since two days
Written 2 June 2018
There are picnic tables and built in grills available. Apparently you can reserve a table for busier times. See the Seattle Parks website for reservations. Seattle.gov

We are in downtown Seattle what is the best way to get there?
Written 6 August 2017
We took a water taxi and rented bikes at that same spot. The ride to the Alki beach trail was short and safe :)

The fireworks are at lake union now. You may be able to see a little but Downtown Seattle and the Queen Anne hill blocks quite a bit of them.

Is it safe to walk around alki at night?
Written 27 March 2017
My boyfriend and I have walked our dogs randomly around midnight. We saw quite a bit of people walking around. But like anywhere I would watch for safety. When it gets warmer I expect there will be even more traffic.
