Pretty but rocky
Jun. 2021
We dropped our husbands off to golf and then went to the beach. The area is pretty but we had a one year old. It wasn't really a good place for a little one.

Watching the Surfers
Feb. 2021 • Couples
As others have pointed out, not a place to take a dip - way too many rocks. Plenty of space to park yourself under a tree and watch the activity, or take a decent hike along the ocean. At the end of the road you either go right or go left. Left is paved and a better option. Pretty beach, one time visit is enough.

Sunset spot
Dec. 2020
Amazing sunset place. you can also watch the gorgeous sunset from the parking lot . We took our dinner(tacos )with us, sat ont he lava rocks and watched sunset and ate. you can decide to go down on the dirt road and deeper into the trail with your car or not , just stay in the parking lot. Both are great options. Wonderful spots for evening photography. Famous spots among the locals.

A wonderful spot to put the sun to bed
Jan. 2020
Kohanaiki Beach Park is a great place to catch an Hawaii sunset long the ragged pacific. There is a little sand, but a lot of lava for the ocean to crash up against. The park stretches north for some distance, but you would want to have a suitable vehicle before driving along the trail. The view behind of Hualālai is breathtaking. If solitude is what your looking for while enjoying the ocean breeze, this place is for you. Definitely a thumbs up for me.

Long beach with new beautiful facilities, pavement, and parking. Coral beach with protected areas for children. Busy on weekends.

Excellent for sunset

Excellent beach to watch the sunset at. Very peaceful. It's a mix of pebbles and sand. Pretty wavy though, many surf. Not great for swimming.

Lovely Beach
May 2019 • Couples
This is a nice beach. It's off the beaten path and was not crowded but easy to get to with paved roads, nice signage, and ample (when we were there) parking. This beach is very clean with slightly rocky sand before a nice brown sand beach. This is not a good place to swim since there is reef right off the shoreline. There was some good surf the day I went, but not for novice surfers (because of the reef). Really though, a beautiful beach!

It’s a beautiful and peaceful place

This place is a real gem. Very close to Kona, easy to get to and not at all overrun by people. There is a tiny beach with course, greyish sand otherwise it’s lava. There are also a good number of shade trees and places to park. A few “outhouse” type of facilities are provided. There is no fresh water so bring your own. It somewhat primitive but THAT is its charm. We love this place.

Sunset at Pine Trees
Jan. 2019 • Friends
Stopped by Pine Trees to catch the sunset. It is a beautiful and rustic sort of place where the waves crash against the rocks and present a beautiful array of colors from stark white Coral to black lava, twisted trees with dark brown trunks and green leaves, an azure blue sea with white plumes of waves against a deep bronze sunset. And this is only one small section of Pine Trees. A great place to relax and enjoy Mother Nature at its most beautiful

Not a swimming beach, but really pretty.

This is also known as Pine Trees Surfing Beach. We were here on a semi-cloudy day. There was plenty of parking available. We set up our chairs and just sat and watched the boogie boarders and kids. This is not a swimming beach, as there are a LOT of lava rocks. You need foot protection to go out in the water. Its a nice, sandy beach with a steep slant down to the water. This seemed more like a locals spot. It was not touristy.
