People get wrecked all the time on this beach. The fair size waves can lul you to sleep and then BAM! A huge set comes out of nowhere 2 to 3 times the size you have seen for 10 minutes or more. People try to...More

Beautiful in every way but be very careful! The waves can be a lot stronger than you anticipated. Restroom and shower facilities available. If you get there later in the day you may have to walk a bit to get to the beach.

Best place for big waves and boogie boarding. Upgraded bathroom facilities and showers at beach. No lifeguards. Recently most of the beach washed away except a small section which has beautiful white sand, a local indicated sand would likely return in the summer. There are...More

Don't come looking for a wide li g beach like hapuna. Instead you'll find a compact beach where everyone finds their spot amongst the lava. We arrived mid morning and parked on the side of the road and walked about 10 minutes to our spot....More

Arrived twice....mid am....parked roadside about 1/2 mile out but worth the walk. Kua Bay has a nice beach.....plenty of places to sun and the bay is great for catching a wave....some people body surfing.....kids building sand castles.....generally a nice area to enjoy sand and sun....More

Be aware, the sand is completely gone right now at Kua Bay (Mile 88 beach). So sad! The sand will come back but it will take several months.

There's a small bookstore gift shop in keauhou in the shopping center that houses Sam Choi restaurant and the kTA grocery. They carry a laminated beach map of the island for $4.98. Fun to try and see all of the beaches.

This is one of our favorite beaches in the state. The waves can get big - we just catch the wave after it's crested when it's rough out. Beautiful sand & turquoise water.

Favorite of locals for good boogie boarding and surfing, as well as just playing in the surf. Small beach, but nice white sands, with good places in the surrounding rockery to set up chairs, umbrellas, etc... to spend a few hours. Also a good beach...More

There are no shops at the beach. There is toilets and showers but that is it. Not many beaches in Kona have vendors.

It's only about 13 miles north of the cruise port but the traffic is usually heavy - especially going back south towards the ships. Seems like there is always construction. Depending on the time of day I'd allow 25 minutes... More
