Unique experience

This is a unique opportunity to get up close and learn a lot about these fascinating little creatures. While sanitation procedures were in place to protect the seahorses, social distancing wasn’t enforced (though masks were required). I know that they work to save these threatened animals, however the tour is quite expensive. Yes, you do get the rare opportunity to ‘hold’ a seahorse, but it’s brief. I left feeling a bit conflicted. These are farm-raised seahorses that are sold to hobbyists for approximately $200 a pair. As the guide mentioned, the males give birth constantly during their lifetime. I asked, ‘so wouldn’t someone’s aquarium soon become overrun with seahorses?’ She said yes, this is a problem and they’ve had owners call and ask what to do. Sometimes they sell them. I hate to think they’d end up down the toilet like many a goldfish before them! I understand buying farm raised is better than taking them out of their natural habitats, but I still left with questions. Yes, they are adorable and fascinating. Yes, the staff truly do care about the seahorses.

Excellent educational tour. This place does wonderful research work on sea horses and other ocean creatures. One of the most unusual and fun experiences on the Big Island of Hawaii Not only will you learn a lot about these special creatures, you will get to have a "hands on" experience, too! Don't miss it.

Daphne was an excellent tour guide! Very friendly and knowledgeable. This was such a cool experience to see these beautiful creatures at different stages of life and to be able to "hold" them. Don't miss out on the gift shop either! Cute souvenirs and T-shirts!

Great, Unique Experience!
May 2021
We loved going on a tour and visiting this facility! We learned a lot and loved seeing the seahorses at different points in their life - from days-old babies to the adults. Of course, the experience of getting a seahorse to wrap its tail around our fingers was magical! It was a fun, educational experience that would be great for kids or adults. They are doing great work at this facility. Our tour was a little over an hour, which was the perfect length.

Really Cool Experience
May 2021
We weren't sure what we'd get when we signed up for this - - and we were simply delighted. Tour is about 75 minutes and the guides are well informed and happy to answer questions. But the sea horses steal the show. I never knew they could grow past 6". You learn a lot without feeling lectured. GREAT for kids under 13.

Interesting.

I happened to be there when there were a large number of children. I like kids, but maybe just not so many. Also, I was disappointed that I had a seahorse on my finger for about 45 seconds before the guide took it and put it on someone else's finger. I have friends that recommended this place and raved about it. And I was really looking forward to a finger contact, but alas, all too brief. I did learn some interesting facts about domesticating seahorses, though. So that was good.

Great place but covid protocols leave a lot to be desired
Mar. 2021 • Family
The actual experience is one of a kind, we enjoyed it. But if you are even semi covid conscience, this might not be as enjoyable of an experience.

Our group had 34 people. In many places, social distancing was impossible. Also, the male guide took his mask off anytime he was talking, even though the female one left hers on the entire time and you could understand her perfectly. It was very frustrating. There was also a guy on the tour who repeatedly took his mask off and staff said nothing.

The tour is very informative and had covid protocols been enforced, I would have given this place/experience 5 stars.

Shout out to the female tour guide with a broken foot - she is new and did a great job. :)

This is literally a once and a lifetime opportunity as this is the only seahorse farm in the world! The amazing mission and effectiveness of this operation is truly inspiring. I am a scuba diver and have never had a seahorse experience until now. They are mesmerizing, and you immediately fall in love. You are also given the opportunity to get better acquainted and hold them. Visit , experience, and support the seahorses!

I was hesitant to book but once I learned about the great conservation work that is the true mission of this place since 1998 I quickly changed my view. Jim and Isaiah were awesome and took great care of us.

Thanks Isaiah for hooking up my teenager so she could enjoy the experience as well
