Not sure how you rate a pier. Lots of boats, and on Wednesdays, cruise ship tenders. Is fun to hang around and see the people and boats. Couple of small beaches on each side. Very first time there many years ago, saw a caught sword...More
Saw a ton of fish, people had seen manta rays. Need to swim off of beach behind King Kamehameha hotel and go to right to avoid boats. Was surgy that day and felt like it would have been safe to bring inexperienced snorkelers.
It's the pier in Kona where you get on/off boats. Not sure why we are even reviewing this. Most of the positive reviews are reviewing things that aren't part of the pier. As a pier its ok, but nothing exciting. Restroom is stinky. NO reason...More
At first glance it just looks like a pier, with a boat or two tied up, people mingling etc. But get out and walk around.. the right side has a small little bay and grassy area great for the kids to play in the shallow...More

Robin C did an excellent job answering your question. Take a cab to Kahaluu'u Beach Park (aka Turtle Beach) which is SUPER snorkeling. There are vendors there for supplies and food and excellent water. Easy in and out if you stay off the rocks. Have fun. About 4 miles from pier.
