This is the best place near Kona to snorkel, that I know of. It's protected by a reef so you don't have to fight the currents. Great fun!

Had a great time body boarding with the family, can be crowded but the waves are awesome! Sunset is a beautifull time to visit, crowds can die down and pictures are amazing !

There was enough surf when I visited that the lifeguard put out the high surf advisory sign. It's a breathtakingly beautiful beach and worth a visit just to see it. Unless you're an experienced boogie boarder or surfer, exercise caution before entering the water when conditions are rough.

One of the few sandy beaches in Kona. Seemed to be a popular spot, but never so crowded that you couldn't enjoy it. We went 6 times over our visit to the island and every time we saw an enormous sea turtle..an incredible experience in itself!

Right close to town this is a gorgeous small beach that is very popular. Then, sometimes the sand disappears hence the name. Also, if it is rough, it is a dangerous place to swim. But if the conditions are right, it is a jewel.

Magic Sands, as part of our island ocean, has many faces. There are calm clear days for snorkeling with children and playing in small surf. There are days when the surf is up and the inexperienced need to stay out of the water. There are weeks when the currents are so strong they take the sand away and only leave... More

This beach provides easy access into the ocean with a sandy bottom - no rock shoes needed! It's a great place for families and both times we visited, we saw lots of kids and adults on boogie boards. We enjoyed playing in the waves and watching the kids scamper around the beach.

This beach is right on Ali'i Drive, which is the road that runs through town along the shoreline here. Magic Sands is so named because sometimes it has sand and sometimes the tides pull it away, so ask around before you go to make sure there is sand to lounge on. This is the closest beach to town that actually... More
