Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The rough road is passable but drive slowly and be courteous of faster moving vehicles.
This area offers postcard photo opts, shade, beach, swimming. Snorkeling is not very good but swimming is and there are turtles to watch. Take the hike to the north for the nicest area. At the north end of the crescent beach there is a trail to Makalawena Beach. This is worth the adventure.
Take Water. Wear Sunscreen and Hat.

We first went to the main entrance, where there is a lot of information about the history of the area. The park ranger told us how to get to the beach area, This is a great area to walk along the beach or swim.

We popped in to barbecue and swim. The grill on the beach was top notch.
The speed bumps on the way in kinda had me scratching my head though. Really? There’s a problem with people speeding? On THIS road?! LOL
On the day we were there, the sheriff was guarding a monk seal and her pup, so we kept our brewskis hidden in Costco cups.
The access to the water was a little iffy, more rocks than sand. But the ocean was perfect, as always.
Even with the limited parking, we found a couple of spots right up front and had easy access.
Beautiful place.

This is a lovely, white sandy beach with decent waves for boogie board surf! Good for the whole family.

I have been reading the other reviews and people seem to mistake this beach for others. I had to look it up too as Kona Coast is the English label where you will see it on maps as Kekaha Kai. This is not the beach at the old Kona Airport and I do not think you can get to it on an easy road. The only road in and out that I saw was the one going over the very rough lava fields. We were quite happy we rented a Jeep as you have a good chance of bottoming out with low clearance vehicles. There are apparently four beaches and the others are pretty much walk-in only. The work to get here is worth every last minute and careful steering through potholes and rough terrain. The beach was a good mix of coral sand and rocks, so you can get your toes in the sand and water and you can see great splashes as surf hits the rocks. There were local families out here having a good time and our kids loved it as well. I would love to come back here and not just because it was our last beach before having to head to the airport.

I don't want to encourage visitors to come to this beach, because I want it all to myself...beautiful beach, amazing water, great breezes...plenty of shade under palm trees if you are nursing a sun burn too...the drive is tedious on a very rough lava field road, but a treat awaits the brave travelers...close to the airport, 20 minutes from the terminal to toes in the sand...clean but smelly bathrooms, and access to a few other beaches from the high parking lot...well worth the walk to other beaches, but the low lot beach is fantastic if time is short...

This is a very accessable beach from the Kona Coast Resort by driving along the Coastal Road. However, it is always quite crowded and getting a parking space is almost imporrible.

We always make a visit or two or more to this beach park when we visit Hawaii almost yearly. We love it, my wife can fish ,I can find a shaded picnic table to sketch. We can beach comb, swim, or just relax.

This is a lovely beach, we had a great afternoon here.
Clean beach, nice sand, clear turquoise waters, gorgeous waters but the water is a bit rough. High waves, just be aware especially with kids.
The road to this beach is long and rough but it really is worth it when you get there.
This is a perfect place to enjoy a Hawaiian afternoon.
Pack a picnic and ENJOY
