Beautiful church. Holy site.

This is where St. Damien served and Brother Dutton is buried. The site next door, largely unmarked, is the holy site of hundreds of patients.

St. Philomena Church was restored a few year ago. It's a beautiful church in a beautiful setting, and of course it is historically significant. Your tour guide will provide historic details to make the visit all the more memorable. Imagine the suffering of the people that worshiped here. There are only a handful of things to see if you take... More

Father Damien ministered to the outcasts of Kalaupapa from this church. He improved this church considerably on his arrival at Kalaupapa. It is located in a beautiful location. Adjoining it is a cemetery of 2,000 unmarked graves. St. Philomena was a highlight of our visit to Kalaupapa.

This will be part of the Damien tour. You can definitely feel a "presence" here of Father (now (Saint Damian) and the thousands of poor souls that he comforted. God Bless.

Do some research about this church, Father (now Saint) Damien, the helping hands who ministered to the patients, the entire history---before going. Be aware that roughly 8,000 souls are laying at rest right next to the church. Father Damien (not a Saint yet) deliberately volunteered to STAY at Kalaupapa to minister to the poor people living at Kalaupapa. Was scheduled... More

This church is situated in such a remote part of the world and has such an important history, I was glad to have made the journey. Seeing the floor holes where Father Damien cut the boards for the patients was moving. What a wonderful lesson in compassion and care.

St Philomena Church is part of the Father Damien tour of The historical leper colony on Moloka'i. Father Damien was buried there but his body has been exhumed and returned to Belgium. Church is no longer active, is tiny and unimpressive

Lot of history here. Beautiful church with beautiful backdrop. Friendly cat was there to greet us when we got off the bus.

Father Damien's church. Rich with history of his ministry to the people of Kalaupapa. This visit to the church was part of our tour. The grave yard outside is also interesting.

The church and its surroundings are part of the day tour of the national park. The church is quaint inside and worth a walk around but the cemetery and the views are amazing. It is still used for a service once a month.
