An Amazing Experience - Not to be missed!

As someone who has never ridden a horse before, let alone a mule - I was a bit hesitant going into the experience. However, once I learned to trust my mule - I had an excellent time. You can't beat the incredible view you get going down the cliffs and to do it by mule is such a unique experience.... More

The ride was a great adventure. But something that happened on the way back up left me very upset as well as others on the ride. One of the guides (Micha) stopped and took a baby goat from its family. These goats roam free around the area. The family of goats were obviously very upset as they cried out and... More

Riding Puka (my assigned mule for the day) down and back up the cliffs above Kalaupapa was an incredible and unforgettable experience -- one of those times where real life just can't be adequately captured in words. This isn't something you watch like a football game -- you live it. The following is my feeble and brief attempt to describe... More

As someone who lived in Hawaii for over 10 years and visits annually, the Kalaupapa mule ride is high on my top ten list. The family that has owned and operated the mule ride is so friendly and helpful that I hope they are able to continue their service for travelers. This is an amazing ride down to one of... More

This was a wonderful experience! I was a bit anxious before the trip down to Kaulapapa as I have a fear of heights. My fear was gone as soon as we started down. My mule knew exactly what to do and I became quite comfortable and truly enjoyed the trip down. We were met by Norman our tour guide. He... More

This is our 2nd time. It was more relaxing as we knew what to expect. The scenery was spectacular as expected. Our guide Norman was exceptional. We were very sad to learn of the passing of the owner Buzzy Sproat a few years back. He was a very kind and gentle man. We met his lovely wife. The guides were... More

If you are looking for a true glimpse of the "real" hawaii and the paniolo spirit, this is the place. The Sproat family is dedicated to providing you a once in a lifetime experience, and it shows. Your trail guides are experienced and very knowledgeable in all aspects of the the trail, wildlife and local history. Upon arrival in the... More

This was an amazing experience, but I would hike or fly in if I were to do it again. The experience was very moving to me. I have wanted to visit since I was in junior high school. This was a bucket list item for me. The ride and the guides are awesome! Very beautiful views of the ocean on... More

Breathtaking, challenging, and, at the settlement, touching. A fine day and unforgettable experience with much thanks to Smokey the mule. Do not go if you have knee, hip, spine issues. Just a bad idea. The mules slam down the rocky, rutted trail. If you have fear of heights, just forget it.😂

Mule ride was great, but you can read the other reviews for details on that. Here is our perspective on the tour of the former leper colony. What I had expected was a tour that was rich in details on the history and experience of the patients of the leper colony. What we actually received was some in-depth discussions of... More
