This was an amazing experience, but I would hike or fly in if I were to do it again. The experience was very moving to me. I have wanted to visit since I was in junior high school. This was a bucket list item for me. The ride and the guides are awesome! Very beautiful views of the ocean on... More

Breathtaking, challenging, and, at the settlement, touching. A fine day and unforgettable experience with much thanks to Smokey the mule. Do not go if you have knee, hip, spine issues. Just a bad idea. The mules slam down the rocky, rutted trail. If you have fear of heights, just forget it.😂

Mule ride was great, but you can read the other reviews for details on that. Here is our perspective on the tour of the former leper colony. What I had expected was a tour that was rich in details on the history and experience of the patients of the leper colony. What we actually received was some in-depth discussions of... More

Molokai Mulerides was the highlight of our visit to Molokai. The ride itself is a treck down a 1700 foot vertical drop with more than 20 switchbacks. I had never been on the back of an animal; so for me, it was rather hair raising at times. I would definitely recommend wearing long pants because the trail can get narrow... More

This is one of the things that you must do if you visit Moloka'i. The historic and cultural importance of the leper colony in Kalaupapa is significant. The trip also offers incredible scenery. The tour itself was very interesting and our guide very informative. Be prepared though. The mule ride is not easy. My wife and her aunt took the... More

If you only do one thing on Molokai, take this ride. The combination of the mule ride with the tour of Kalaupapa leper colony make for an unforgettable day. To be clear, the mule ride and Kalaupapa tour are purchased together with one ticket, but they are led by two separate companies. Our tour only had nine guests. We took... More

After reading the reviews, I was curious as to the "scary factor" of this ride. I am a well seasoned equestrian, and have ridden the mules down the Grand Canyon twice, as well as challenging trails in the American West on horse pack trips. This ride is great, but not scary. Remember, mules are the Humvees of the equine world!... More

Warning: this is not an option for the faint of heart. Be prepared to descend down a 3 1/2 mile mountain path of rocks and mud (if it has rained) at about a 30 degree angle. Then do it all over again going uphill. The people who own/run the business are not very organized but do try and accomodate. Our... More

So pleased to hear that they have revived the mule ride! To those who were annoyed by the temporary cancellation, you were completely justified. Not just because of the major inconvenience, but because—for my wife and I—the mule ride and tour of Kalaupapa was one of the most profoundly compelling experiences of our lifetime. So sorry you missed the opportunity!... More

This ride is not for everyone but is extremely well organized and the mules are very hard workers. We went after a lot of rain so the trail was muddy, slippery and not well maintained by the Parks authorities. Incredibly steep so if you are not used to riding then you need to hang on! Coming back up is easy... More
