We booked the mule ride months ago for the first week of January. They called us a few days ahead and said that one of the bridges on the trail has washed out and the trail was closed. They offered us the plane ride option...More

After the ride getting canceled due to weather while sitting on our mules 9 years ago let's try again. If you tend to drive yourself don't make the mistake we did. They weren't located in the same place they were 9 years ago and you...More

My sisters and me, all in our early 60s, decided to take the mule trip down to Kalaupapa and it was a trip of a life time! Yes, it's steep and narrow over rocky terrain, but our mules were sure-footed and calm and the views...More

We were fortunate to do the ride after a dry spell on a spectacular day. The ride down the 1700 foot cliff was mostly in the shade. The mules really appeared to be happy healthy animals and felt very trustworthy and sure footed. I was...More

We were a little apprehensive about riding a mule but hiking was out of the question and the plane ride was much too expensive. Even if you are a hiker I would reconsider. The trail is treacherous. Why would you want to walk 2 hours...More

Have you seen a rodeo bucking bull competition? Now imagine riding that bull down a STEEP CLIFF for 1.5 hours! That's what this mule ride feels like. I don't get all the positive reviewers. Did you all actually ride the mule? The path is extremely...More

I went on the mule ride with my younger cousin (40-ish) and sister-in-law (50-ish) and my sister (65-ish). I'm almost 70. The two younger ones thoroughly enjoyed the ride--number one and two respectively on their all-time favorite experiences. My sister and I enjoyed the gorgeous...More

We did this in June 2018. A little scary at times, and we were sore afterwards (not regular horse/mule riders) but the views and the experience more than make up for it. Not only is there the very cool experience of riding the mules both...More

I was there at the end of April after news had been released of the closure. They still did the ride, but they had to have a trailer deliver the mules to the trail.
