We were on Molokai and took the airplane trip down to see Kalaupapa. We met our guide at the Kalaupapa airport after a quick 6 minute flight. He took us to pick up a group of hikers that had hiked down that morning, there were...More

My wife and I wanted to hike down and up to the Kalaupapa settlement. When we called father Damien tours for a permit they informed us that the tour was mandatory and cost $99. We didn’t want to take the tour, only experience the hike...More

After riding down to Kalaupapa on a mule, we were met by our tour bus and guide, Keahi, who was amazing. I only wish I could remember everything he told us! He did tell us the history of the Hawaiian people and a lot of...More

I've only hiked down, never up (we flew out). The Mule ride is a blast, you may be a little sore afterwards but well worth the adventure.

I used muleride.com to book this tour, but to be honest, I don't think it matters who you use, as you will all end up with the same tour guide once in Kalaupapa. The people in my group all used different companies to book, and...More

We live on the Big Island of Hawaii and we have always wanted to see Kalaupapa on Molokai. We arranged a 3-day visit and stayed at the Hotel Molokai. We enjoyed how quaint and rustic Molokai is, but the reason for our trip was going...More

You can only hike the trail with specified agents. And what a hike - 2000 ft top to bottom, with many twists and turns. My husband and me are in our very late 50’s, and it took us just over 2 hours down, and just...More

We hiked into the valley, and our tour included the pass, a bus tour, and lunch. No one is allowed on the peninsula without a sponsor--so we got our wristbands in the morning at the excursion office giving us access and drove the short distance...More

Or you can hire a car from the airport - there are about 1/2 a dozen within a minutes walk. We used Alamo. The drive from the airport to the park is about 3/4 hour
