majestic landscapes

After the year's heavy rains, the desert was full of spring blooms that gave a new perspective to this striking landscape. But in even in draught years, this a magical place to be.

This was my first visit to Joshua Tree National Park. My traveling partner had been many times. We entered through the Joshua Tree portal and it was busy; expect a line during peak season. We exited through 29 Palms a couple of time (during a week of hikes) and there was no line in the afternoon - though may be... More

If you are in Palm Springs you gave to visit joshua tree, even if for a few hours. The drive from palm Springs is easy and about 45-60 minutes. Stop at the joshua tree visitor center for a map and hike advice. Then, be wowed by the joshua trees, and and dramatic rock formations. The spring blooms of the vegetation... More

This is a vast desert extending from the 29 Palms Valley to interstate 5 on the south. It varies in altitude almost 10,000 feet and therefore the geology and the vegetation differ enormously. The paved road across is Y shaped, with two entrance on the north and one on the south. There are some pretty hikes of different length and... More

We spent the day driving through the park. The changing landscape and vistas were amazing. So interesting to explore the desert landscape. Stopped to wander through the hidden valley trail where it is believed that cattle rustlers hid there stolen cattle So cool! Beautiful lookout points are worth stopping for.

spent a whole day in the park. Its pretty nice view. boulder rock and joshua tree side by side. In spring time say cactus flowers (bright red/pink). Also saw couple of lizards. Key's view point is nice (should be very good during sunset). Carry your food and water as there is nothing inside the park. careful with the cactus thorns.

I love the Joshua Trees but hiking among them was almost indescribable. We stopped a lot to take pictures of the trees and views, but got in a great workout too! The sky is so blue and clear. The other hikers are friendly and enjoying themselves as well. This hike was a pleasure and we plan to go back during... More

Looking at rocks and trees did not sound impressive, but what a wonderful surprise. The park is superbly presented, with excellent roads, clear signage, informative staff at the entrances, enormous selection of hiking trails, and delightful range of desert flora and fauna. The winter's rains have stimulated massive greenery, flowers, and growth in all plants. The "gardens" of cactus trees,... More

We saw more cacti and flowers in this park than we have ever seen anywhere in the SW desert. It is very unique with two separate eco-systems within its borders. This year there are more blooms than normal because of the recent rains. The Joshua Trees are amazing. Take the time for a patio talk from a ranger at the... More

Don't take any tours, just drive down the main road through the park! Stunning rock formations and plenty of flora and tons of Joshua trees. An easy hike is the Hidden Valley which is well worth a visit. There are many other hikes, some not as well marked (where you might need a guide). We climbed up to the top... More
