Hotel was excellent. Room was spacious and clean. Wifi connection was fast and strong. Cleaning of room was perfect, each day. The only surprise, and not due to the hotel, was the alarm which rang in the middle of the night across all of St Gilgen....seemingly to call the fireman to post. We were not informed about this practice and were surprised and could not understand. Hotel breakfast was abundant, of high quality and substantial. Lady of the hotel was educated, smart and always available to help.

St. Giligen is a charming village on the shore of Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee) outskirt of Salzburg. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's mother was born here, and Mozart's sister Nannerl moved here after her marriage. Cafe Nannerl in the village is named after Mozart's sister Nannerl. "Mozart House", located at a prime location of the village, is the house where Mozart's mother was born and his sister lived after her marriage. Cute statute of Mozart, playing violin, is standing at the center of Mozartplatz. In addition to the leisure seeking visitors, this village receives many visitors who are taking part of the famous Sound of Music Tour originating from Salzburg which includes this village in their itinerary.

We loved St. Gilgen's town plaza which has a few souvenir shops, an ice cream stand and a couple of restaurants. We also really enjoyed renting an electric boat for 30 minutes. It cost around 18 euros and was very worthwhile to be able to see the town and the surrounding mountains from the lake.

We had a really strange experience in St Gilgen - we walked across from St Wolfgang on the Pilgrim's Way in the rain, and so were ready to sit down and relax in a cafe and then browse the village, but almost everything was closed - all the cafes, almost all the shops, all the attractions. This was a Thursday in May at around 2:30pm, so it's not like it was out of season. (Correspondingly it was difficult to know what to rate it...)

The cutest, most colorful, delightful village and near wonderful Lake Wolfgangsee. Visited many villages and this was by far our favorite in all of Austria!!

My parents and I decided to visit this lake town outside of Salzburg (40 min) the previous night and I need to come back for more!! This small town offers so much!! You have a gondola that takes you over the lake, a 4 hour boat tour that takes you around Wolfgangsee and Wolfgang Mozart’s sisters home there as well. I wish we had more time but glad I was able to walk around and enjoy a cup of coffee at a lakeside cafe. Very relaxing!

We stayed on this beautiful square for 11 days and always had something interesting going on. The Rathaus is beautiful, and there was a village festival and Corpus Christi service while we were there. Also great people watching - knots of tourists walking down to take a picture next to the fountain. Great time!

I booked a care service with MyDayTrip.com from Prague to Salzburg, and this was an add-on tour. I'm so very grateful for the opportunity to have visited this beautiful village and have our wonderful driver as a wealth of knowledge. The lake, stream and mountains are so breathtaking, and the quaint shops just make you smile!
Thank you to Mydaytrip.com for offering this experience!

The St. Gilgen Mozartplatz is the main place located in the middle this village, included the city hall, very nice place with lovely old style building, a lot of Cafe house, traditional Austrian's Restaurant around there.

This review isn't about Mozartplatz specially, but more of St Gilgen itself (couldn't find anywhere on TA that lets you review a town!).

Came here for an hour mid April when pretty much the whole town was closed down, getting ready for the Summer season.
It is a lovely example of a lakeside Austrian town, hosting a little bit of history.
Boat tours of the lake are available. It's VERY popular with the Chinese and other Asians, as we witnessed first hand. I think they outnumbered the inhabitants of the town.

Make sure you go to the look out above the town for spectacular views.
