Went during September when the weather was excellent and the hikers were plentiful. Walked to this gondola from the hotel (it's in the middle of town) and rode it up to the top. The views are fantastic and we stopped at the top had a...More
We’ve been going to Mayrhofen for a decade, when we first went there, the latter part of the lifts were the old fashioned chairs with the pull over bars. Since then the whole cable car system has been massively improved. What a difference. Since our...More
We used our Activecard on the Penkenbahn and then spent the morning trying out the Bergroller (like a mountain scooter). We took the "day-ticket" with 4 rides up and tried out both the blue (back to the Penken middle station) and the red (over to...More
Location is very accessible in the main street of Mayrhofen. Spectacular views of the Austrian alps. Many walking trails & restaurants. Spend a whole day up there. Look for the wooden beds for a rest during your hike. Best to look for combination tickets, as...More
Fantastic Dopplemeyer Gondola with wonderful view of Zillertal and south to the high peaks. The gondola opens up a range of hiking opportunities along the ridge top towards the Finkenberg alm and beyond towards Rastkogel. Lots of huts for refreshments. Go early to beat the...More
There are lots of trails to explore, with small alpine lakes with glorious views. Sit and enjoy a drink or a meal on the terrace of one of the restaurants . Climb up the Wanglespitze, and if you have time, continue up the Rastkogel.

Don't know about parking because we were staying in Mayrhofen and walked but there was no snow at all in July, so I doubt there would be in October. The Hintertux Glacier has snow 365 days a year. We went there by bus from Mayrhofen. It took about 40 mins I think and people were skiing at the top. There is also an ice cave you can go down.
