President Carter apparently hates this thing (it's not very flattering, is it?), but the peanut selfie is a must when you're leaving Maranatha Baptist Church or just visiting Plains. Be careful - there's a fire ant hill right next to it.

Who doesn't like a giant smiling peanut? This is one of those click, "I was at the smiling peanut" stops. You'll spend all of about 5 minutes at it (unless of course, you wander into the convenience store). As far as roadside kitsch goes, this one is aces.

We just had to stop and have our picture taken with the peanut statue while visiting Plains. It's on the right as you drive from downtown Plains towards Maranatha Baptist Church. Of course you can't miss it! Who doesn't love a giant peanut?!

If visiting the Marantha Baptist Church in Plains this is a quick photo opportunity that is right next to the church. Makes for a great family picture.

A quick stop along the way to Plains... with a memorable, kitschy "feel." Grab a photo, make a memory, and keep this piece of American history tucked away to look back upon later, with as big a smile as you'll find on this giant peanut.

When I say that the people of Plains, GA are kind, I mean even the dogs are kind! When we drove up to this giant, famous peanut, this barking dog came running out at us. He was friendly and sweet and as my husband took pictures, I petted him and gave him head and shoulder rubs. Unforgettable.

At thirteen feet tall, it could be the world's second largest peanut. The peanut was made by three Indiana residents James Kiely, Doyle Kifer, and Loretta Townsend for a 1976 political visit to Evansville IN by Jimmy Carter.
