This is a great hike to do if you are short on time. You scramble and hike up boulders and rocks through massive spires. We did this as an out and back. The way out is all uphill. You most likely want some good knees for this hike.

This was a great short hike while we were doing the scenic needles highway drive. Both are exceptionally beautiful. Our 7 & 9 year old kids had no difficulty on the hike and really enjoyed climbing on the big boulders along the way. Watch out for ticks in this area. We found one in our jacket and another woman we... More

I didn't do the entire hike because I was alone and never feel that it's good to hike a long distance by yourself. However, the part that I did do had beautiful views every step of the way. The beginning of the trail was not difficult and anyone could do it. There is good parking at the Cathedral spires hairpin... More

Scenery is great for this hike. It's not a crazy hard hike, kids could do it. The smell of the pine needles were amazing.

Park at the Cathedral Spires trail head and take a walk back in. It's only about 2.5 miles round trip. It has a couple spots where you need to scramble over some rocks, but it's really not too bad. Once you get back in the canyon you will be glad you did it.

Not too long, and some stiff climbs in a few places. But the reward at the end is very cathedral-like. Keep going to the end where the views out to Harney peak and other places are the best.

Off of Needles Highway, this trail is a beautiful way to start your day. This isn't for people with bad knees, though, as there are quite a few rocks to hike up (and then back down). The trail is where the beauty lies, not at the trail end. Often people hike towards a pretty end destination, but on this trail... More

Take this short route to the top of Harney Peak for a breath taking view of 5 states. The trail goes through the Needles Area en route to Harney Peak. You get great views of the Black Hills.
