Overview
More
Jewel Cave National Monument is home to one of the longest caves in the world. Offering an assortment of cave formations and recreational opportunities, many visitors are truly amazed by this underground wilderness. Most impressive is the fact that exploration and discovery continue to take place at this significant natural resource. As part of the National Park Service, the Monument offers four different types of cave experiences: Scenic Tour (1 hour and 20 minutes), Discovery Talk (20 minutes) Historic Lantern Tour (1 hour and 45 minutes), and Wild Caving Tour (3 to 4 hours). During the late winter and early spring seasons, limited tour options are available. It is recommended that visitors check online for specific tour times or call the visitor center directly for park ranger assistance. NOTE: At present, advanced reservations for cave tour tickets are not available in 2017. It is hoped that this service will be available by Memorial Day Weekend; however, until further notice, all cave tour tickets are being sold on a first come first serve basis.

Thank you for the kind words and taking the time to review Jewel Cave. It is true that all tours are not meant for everyone and those with young children or the elderly may find the Scenic tour a less that perfect fit. Please take...More

After touring Wind Cave in the morning we headed to Jewel Cave and caught the last scenic tour of the afternoon. We weren't expecting it to be so cavernous - amazing! There are a lot of stairs (mostly down) but the metal stairway and railings...More

Thanks for the nice review. We are glad you decided to visit both caves as we are very different from each other. We have many guests who choose to wear gloves during the tour to be more comfortable. Great tip!

Skip the commercial cave tours in the area and go to this national monument. The tour is cheap and takes about 1.5 hours. The guides are great and you will go through some of the most beautiful caves ever. Wear good walking shoes, take a...More

Thank you for the 5 star review. Our most requested tour is the longer Scenic tour, but our Discovery talk is very popular as well. Designed for those with physical limitations, young children or visitors with time constraints, the 20 -30 minute talk covers the...More

Thank you for your review. What we lack in "cave decorations" is made up by the shear length and massiveness of Jewel Cave. Currently 182.93 miles long and growing with nearly every survey, we are the third longest cave in the world. In short, if...More

He will be fine. The area of the cave where the Scenic tour takes place is very big. He will just have to watch his head in a few places!

There are no areas with sufficient shade to leave pets unattended in a vehicle during the summer months and we highly discourage this practice.
