We (Mom,Dad, 10b,9b,6g,3g) camped in the Sylvan Lake Campground for the better part of the week. We spent about 3 days swimming, fishing, and kayaking(bring your own if you really want to enjoy the lake, renting for an hour isn't enough time). We saw a lot of people spending a few hours walking or swimming, but having spent all that... More

Sylvan lake is just beautiful. It's so unique and picturesque. We hiked the trail around the lake and sat on the rock and and just enjoyed it's beauty.

Sylvan Lake simply mesmerized me. You can walk all around the lake and watch the group sparkle with quartz. There is some hiking to be done as well. The water was so blue and serene that the rocks had perfect reflections. We didn't plan on stopping here, but while driving the Needles Highway, we saw it and had to stop... More

The general store and cabins surrounding the lake were closed for the season but there were still people walking the path around the lake. It is a beautiful blue lake surrounded by pine trees. The cabins sit up high on a hill with a wonderful view of the lake. I will be back to rent one of those lake cabins.

Sylvan is our favorite Lake to visit in the Black Hills. Amazing rocks for the kids to climb on and great trails. Last visit we did Little Devils Tower Spur Trail which is a 3.8 mile out and back trail near the lake. This visit we took the Sunday Gulch Trail. The trail heads are at the backside of the... More

Allow time. Bring water. Dress in layers. Bring a camera. Wear good shoes some parts are steep and big steps. But something everyone should do.

This is a nice little lake in Custer State Park. It isn't natural & you can view the dam area in the back of it by the rocks. The parking lot is large & they built an overflow lot due to the massive amounts of people who visit every day. You will be expected to pay the $20 fee before... More
