The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

the Spanish plaza is currently gated off and undergoing renovations. I used to get a pic of the wife every time we've gone to New Orleans in front of the Spanish plaza fountain. well not this time it was being renovated, maybe next time....Happy Travels!!

It's nothing special. I passed through it frequently on this trip but never found it special in any way. It was much nicer on a sunny day than a rainy, cloudy one, but still I wouldn't go out of my way to see it.

If you have been walking around woldenberg park, the outlets, the Aquarium or the harbor the "Spanish plaza" is a nice place to sit have a bite to eat/drink in one of their casual restaurants/cafe's and enjoy the nice waterfall's in the center of the plaza...

Skip it. Might be a lovely spot someday, but needs some TLC. Fountain tiles are faded and cracked. Water was not running during our visit. There is construction all around, which makes it a little more difficult to access.

If you are wandering the riverfront, don't bother with this part.

The plaza and fountain were closed for construction at the end of January. Check when they are reopening. The plaza is right near the Riverwalk Outlet but not worth a visit while under renovations.

I was warned before I went that New Orleans is not safe - a co-worker was robbed there last month - but I went anyway, and was the victim of a pickpocket. At the police station I joined a crowd of other victims. The policeman came out and told the whole crowd not to bother filing police reports because they wouldn’t be processed for 60 days. You work hard for the momey to take a vacation - don’t risk going to New Orleans. It isn’t safe.

This place is currently a construction site and is all fenced off.

Nothing to see other than a view of the river and the shopping centre.

I remember the dedication of Plaza de Espana – Spanish Plaza, in what is now known as Woldenberg Consulate’s office, plus many of the politicians, movers and shakers in New Orleans. The name was changed from Eads Plaza to Plaza de Espana, during that event in 1976. The centerpiece was a large, circular fountain.
On this March visit, it was all but gone. Now, the near-by World Trade Center is being converted into a Four Seasons Hotel, and everything in the vicinity is a construction zone. The Riverfront Streetcar Line is closed, as are several streets in the area. However, while the construction likely has had a major impact on Plaza de Espana, it has basically been left to go derelict. I was so very sad to see the state that it’s in now, and only hope that when the construction is complete, and the Four Seasons opens, it will be restored to its former glory, and beauty.

Right by the river, plenty of space, food and drink nearby.
The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk is a few steps away.
Watch the ferry, the cruise ship, or the container ships glide by.

This could be very well looked after and made a place where tourists could throng with cafes and food vans. It is not.
