Originally built in 1927, the Saenger Theatre was designed to reflect a magnificent 15th century Italian courtyard and gardens, with a starlit evening sky ceiling, arched surroundings, statuary, columns and decorative moldings. In January 2012, the City of New Orleans, Canal Street Development Corporation (CSDC) and ACE Theatrical Group formed a public-private partnership to carry out a $52 million restoration project after the iconic theatre was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina. The Saenger Theatre reopened in fall 2013, authentically restored to the finest level of detail, with state-of-the-art technological improvements and updated first-class amenities. The theatre hosts a wide variety of performing arts attractions including live theater, comedy shows and musical acts. The Saenger Theatre is located at the corner of Canal and North Rampart streets in downtown New Orleans and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

This is probably the nicest theatre I have been in. We go to lots of shows in theatres in many cities. We went a half hour before the Carole King Musical just to take it all in. The wonderful Italian façade under a lit evening sky that gives the feel of sitting outdoors. The great sightlines from floor to second... More

Enjoyed listening to Norah jones but the crowd was distracting. People constantly getting up to get drinks and use the restrooms. Bathrooms were clean.

I grew up in New Orleans in the 1950's/1960's & went to the Saenger many times. It's wonderful to see it so beautifully restored. We had amazing seats--so large and spacious & easily accessible (Suite M A 5&6.) The Lion King was beautiful. There are many concession stands inside and we used the "pay on line parking" which was very... More

My boyfriend and I went here to see a comedy show and the venue was beautiful. Had a very antique, old school feel. The venue is smaller and very intimate. We has good seats and could see and hear everything. We had to park about a block away and walk to the venue.

Great theatre. Everything was clean and everyone I spoke to was pleasant. Loved the show as well, but the staff of the theatre should receive a lot of credit.

Full concession bar is nice for most, but some didn't like fact that food could be taken in to theater and consumed during the show.

Lion king Broadway at Seanger Theater was amazing. A very beautiful theater. Concession were more upscale than just hot dogs and popcorn. And bars. I do have 2 complaints. 1 the way they herd you into crowded place and don't open doors right away so your standing there on top each other for like 30 mins. My 2nd was during... More

We just saw the Lion King at the Saenger. The facility is beautiful! The sound was great. The staff was efficient. Plenty of concessions locations. There are multiple paid parking locations nearby. We parked in the Saenger parking 1 1/2 blocks away. We will definitely go to the Saenger again.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.
