Balcony Music Club (or "BMC") is conveniently located on the corner of Esplanade and Decatur. Although this music venue is in the French Quarter, it isn't technically on Frenchmen, but definitely a part of the Frenchmen culture.

You will find a wide range of music at BMC! Brass, jazz, blues, folk, funk, rock, and country. One great thing about BMC is that its music lineup often starts much earlier than the rest of Frenchmen St, so you can get started closer to midday and happy hour, especially on weekends. And since there's usually no cover, you can pop in for a few songs, take a stroll, and come back at your leisure.

BMC, also affectionately known as the Center Of The Universe, showcases live bands seven nights a week. Since the venue is larger than most in the area, it's usually not as cramped, but on busy nights, you likely will not find seating. In which case you can relax at their indoor/outdoor patio bar, stand, or dance the night away. Either way, the staff is friendly, drink prices are reasonable, the entertainment is always on point and you will not be disappointed.

Quick overnight in New Orleans and wanted to find that "Locals" club, laid back with original artist. On my early evening run down Esplanade, "Thru a downpour" ran by this club and it looked promising. Came back a couple hours later and enjoyed a low key, comfortable evening listening to Heidi Jo. Tuesday night so almost had the place to... More

If you're going to BMC for the food...forget about it. We visited in December of 2016, and it took the longest time to have someone come to our table to take our drink orders. We enjoyed the band that was there that night, but we never saw our server again that evening. Finally, after about an hour, I went to... More

While not on Frenchmen, BMC has been upgrading their acts. As we live a few blocks away we have been starting to come more. They have a great kitchen in the back for upsacle bar food: gyro, slides, cuban, pork sliders. Heard Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Helraiseers. They were going strong for over 90 minutes without literally a single... More

The BMC is a welcoming, energetic music spot. Heard fantastic female singer accompanied by a 4 piece band (inlcluding trombone and sax.)

Great bar with no cover charge, fantastic music (we saw the jazzmen) and a great vibe inside. Some nice cocktails on the menu and just a really cool bar we really enjoyed on our way from jacksons square to Frenchman street

The music is excellent and it is one block from Frenchmen Street where there are two blocks of Jazz, Blues & other music clubs, with some having very good dinning. It is worth a visit. There is also an open air art market. This should be an evening event.

No cover, cold beer, hot tunes in an intimate setting. We heard Little Red & the Big Band -- a nice mix of music well performed.

Maybe it was the night we picked but it was definitely not Blues or Jazz, it was Rock. And to go with that, it was loud. The music was okay, but not what we were looking for, and too loud for us.

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
