We took this tour on Sunday, April 23rd. Our tour guide was Stella, a transplant from New Jersey. She is a resident of the neighborhood and local musician. She gave a comprehensive history of New Orleans and the sources of its culture, the evolution of the neighborhood, and the emergence of jazz and rock and roll. It was one of... More

Walking tour of Treme, which was a television program a few years ago. A very interesting and colorful neighborhood. The oldest Catholic Church,St. Augustine in located in Treme. It also has some very colorful B&B's that I have seen advertised in our local newspaper. Also, stumbled across an establishment that was selling fish dinners, that turned out to be very... More

This was a nice stroll through the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood's story is important and is very worth learning. Unfortunately, I think we, and some of the others on the tour thought this tour was more focused on the musical legacy of the Treme'. We were a bit disappointed when the main mentions of the music of the area were to... More

Our tour guide was Justin. He was amazingly knowledgeable about so much of Treme's history. Our tour took about 2 hours in which we learned about New Orleans Jazz, Treme's history through current and touched on some knowledge about the city of New Orleans. All in all it was an amazing experience that I definitely recommend. We took the tour... More

For anyone interested in history, and any of these topics, this is a must take tour. Our tour guide Robin is not only a... More

Unlike all the hocus-locus-poltergeist baloney tours in the Quarter, this is a tour with substance. Our guide Robin, who grew up in the Treme, was sincere, interesting, did not gloss over the bad, did not exaggerate the good. We enjoyed the tour starting with the history of Storyville and its and Treme's impact on American music and then moving on... More

This was an easy walk with a half-way break so need to be super-fit. Stops to chat were considerately kept in the shade and Robin was an excellent guide (we couldn't have had better). We learned that N.O. was not only the home of jazz but also rock and roll. Plenty of information about Treme in particular, which was very... More

What I imagined would be a routine recitation of known facts turned out to be a deep immersion into the history and culture of Treme. This adventure was narrated and animated so colorfully by our guide Sandy, who was always patient with our questions and never rushed. At the tours conclusion, right then and there, we could have repeated the... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
