My wife and I recently spent 4 nights at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street. We had read a review of the Jazz Playhouse online and were aware of it's location in the hotel. We visited the Playhouse several times and were impressed with the high quality of the performances. Every evening a different jazz band performs. The 3 we... More

Perfect spot to enjoy cocktails and jazz music. We almost missed it since it's in a hotel. Great place to get away from the craziness of bourbon street.

A classy and beautiful place to spend an hour or two and get away from junky Bourbon Street. We visited it twice during our five day stay. Great jazz for the cost of a one drink minimum.

We arrived around 9 pm on Sunday night, and there was scattered seating available. All of tables have pretty good views of the stage, and very comfy seating. The cocktails are on the pricier side, but are very high quality. I had a glass of very good chardonnay for $8.50, my husbands beer was $9. We were fortunate enough to... More

We visited following a meal nearby. Wow, what a place, a lovely, classy, cosy bar with excellent helpful friendly staff. To top it off there was a superb jazz singer and band. Loved it and would recommend it.

We popped into the Jazz Playhouse( bar) and had a cocktail and listened to some great jazz by Jazz o holics band on a Friday night. The servers were attentive. Drinks are a bit pricy but its nice. There was a Mardi Gras party going on in the courtyard right by the bar. Restrooms located right outside the bar and... More

I hesitated going to this club simply because it's located on Bourbon Street. However, it's very much worth the trip, and putting up with the craziness of Bourbon. The club's decor is classic jazz with bistro tables and chairs facing the stage. The cocktails and service were outstanding. Appetizers are available. The servers were readily available and made sure everyone... More

I was here three years ago and last night for the Glen David Andrews and His Funky Band. The venue is great and there is no fee if you do not reserve: you just pay for your drinks and/or food. But I would pay for both shows I saw there. They get great jazz artists who play great music and... More

So enjoyed the evening in this gem. We were surprised at the class and comfort of this venue which provided a great evening of jazz with delicious reasonably priced drinks. Will definitely be back on our next trip

We specifically put the Jazz Playhouse on our potential visit list because it's inside the Royal Sonesta Motel, and has the reputation for being a bit quieter. We thought that might be a good idea on Friday or Saturday night when other jazz locations might be pretty crowded and noisy. We went on Saturday night and it was just right.... More

Staying in French Quarter

Neighbourhood Profile
French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.
