The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Central Business District
Compared to the more evocative monikers of some other parts of New Orleans, the downtown’s humdrum title might suggest that this area is all about business and little else. But don’t let the bland name keep you away from the Central Business District. The CBD offers a wide range of fun things to do that would be touted as exceptional in less jubilant corners of the world. Bordered by the French Quarter, the Arts District and Tremé, with the river at its eastern extreme, this hub for sports, gaming, shopping, theatre, family-friendly activities, and amazing regional cuisine makes a smart base wherever your interests lie.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The French Quarter is lively and fun, but sometimes it's nice to get away from the crowds and action. My husband and I took the St. Charles streetcar a few blocks from Canal St to Julia Street, the Arts District. It is quiet and clean with many galleries which are either dedicated to individual artists or are collections of a variety of artists. All of the gallery owners are welcoming and more than happy to chat, even if you are not in the market to purchase anything. We saw art (mostly paintings) by local artists which showed a different side of Louisiana than just New Orleans. Some of the galleries also have more crafty items like jewelry. As we went on a Tuesday morning, not all of the galleries were open, but there were enough so that we could enjoy ourselves and not get worn out. Highlights were talking with Steve Martin, the Ariodante gallery, lunch at Carmo, and New Orleans Glassworks and Bittersweet Confections (on Magazine Street)

The Art district of New Orleans is a quite area and not up to much. There are a number of galleries, mostly smaller in size.
