The area
Address
Neighbourhood: French Quarter
A small and teeming network of laissez-faire living lounged out on the balmy banks of the Mighty Mississippi, the French Quarter has long been a port of call for folks in search of a good time and a great story. Perpetually inebriated Bourbon Street runs across its midriff like a strand of cheap ribbon tied around an otherwise rather pretty and impressively well-kept vintage dress. Throughout the rest of the Quarter, brightly colored Victorian homes and businesses, famously done up with wrought-iron features, provide a distinct and immediately recognizable backdrop for all varieties of fun. At any given moment in this historic riverside setting, some of America’s finest meals are being cooked, most potent cocktails are being mixed, and most engaging music is being performed.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The riverfront park was a great place to stretch our legs, especially after beignets and coffee and the adjacent Cafe Du'Monde. The views of downtown New Orleans, being alongside the Mississippi River, the views across the river, and further down the river, all made for an enjoyable walk. This popular stretch is a great place to break away from the bustle of New Orleans.

Just South of the busy French Quarter is this peaceful small strip of grass near the river bank. The steamships Natchez and the City of New Orleans are moored there. Those are artifacts of past glories. There is also a monument dedicated to the numerous immigrants that came into the city. You can also get a good view of the Crescent City Connection in the background.

Very nice area. Walk along the river from the business district to the French quarter. There’s a lot of sculptures and things to see.

This is a nice park for a quiet break or peaceful stroll. Great location convenient to everything the French Quarter offers. Parking lot runs alongside it for easy access.

Stretching between the Mississippi River and the French Quarter, the Audubon Woldenburg Riverfront Park is a lovely sprawl of grassland. A good picnic spot, there are also views of the mighty Mississippi River and some sculptures, including the Monument to the Immigrant and a seated sculpture of Woldenburg himself, with a little child. Just the place for sitting and relaxing or, for the more energetic, jogging or even cycle-riding.

Riverfront park has a lot going on. Lots of cycling, walking, jogging and of course street artists. Runs along the Mississippi.

Start your walk at the French Market and go all the way down to Canal Street and Riverfront mall. You will pass into Crescent Park on the way. Nice breeze coming off the water and the boats go by.

There's nothing quite like sitting along the walkway, people watching, watching the water, steamboats, and barges creep by. So soothing and relaxing. I am usually on the end near the wharf area and Dumaine.

The river is a must see for me. Once I am off the plane, my first stop is to the river before anything else is attended to. During my stay, it is a must that I visit the river daily. I prefer early mornings around sunrise.

I could sit here and watch the barges go up the river for hours. If your lucky enough you can see a cruise ship pass by. Grab some beignets and coffee and head to the river.

I read some reviews warning people of panhanderls and scammers on the riverfront or some of the squares. Had NO PROBLEMS in any squares (Jackson Square) or the riverfront. Just courteous people walking and minding their own business. Offered to help people take photos in exchange for them using my phone to take one of me-all good! River front and the squares and French Quarter an easy walking outing of 3-5 hours (including a meal) in a relaxed way. Only those w/ mobility issues or those who cannot walk 3-4 miles may struggle. It was easy enough strolling and taking a few breaks. Lots of pubs/bars/cafes to have a beverage-including many squares and parks to enjoy a beverage. Highly recommend walking in French Quarter-no taxis or uber needed.
