I fell in love with the curator of this museum. The way the works were selected and positioned is so coherent that the museum is a work of art of its own. A very happy and exuberant work of art, with much humor and openness.

Sunday. Rain. Too many tourists in the French Quarter. It was time to escape to the quiet and calm of the art museum. It was a joy to visit this small but exquisite museum. This museum is a gem. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch at the cafe. Tip- you can take a street car to the art museum but... More

The information says to allow at least 2.5 hours. Apparently we are not average. We did have a good lunch while we visited, but about 5 hours after we began the self-guided tour, we left. We live about 275 miles away, and may not visit regularly, but we felt so strongly about the worth of NOMA that we became annual... More

A rather eclectic collection of art with not a great 'flow' to the various rooms. Loved the sculpture garden outside though.

I enjoyed the art from all over the world. They have the classic European art along with art from Native Americans, Africa, Asia, and Mesoamerica. Definitely worth the visit.

In addition to their permanent collection, the Museum currently is featuring an exhibit of Venetian artwork and artifacts from sixteenth century Venice. It is a great collection.

So, it is about a 15-minute cab ride from the French Quarter, but it is worth it. The NoMa has an excellent collection of art and sculpture spanning the globe (African Art, Mayan Art, European Art, a small collection of Native American Art, Modern Art). The staff is super friendly. I suggest going on a Friday night. The museum is... More

The museum is not really worth a visit. There were a few cool pieces on Louisiana art, but for the most part it was a smaller and less impressive version of the greater museums. The museum is also terribly lit, when you stand in front a painting, your shadow falls on the painting. However DO go to the sculpture garden... More

I didn't get to see the entire museum but what I did see was rather good. There are some well known artists' work that is not very well known, which is sort of refreshing. I'd give yourself a good half day to really explore the collections here. It's also nice if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of... More

Staying in Lakeview

Neighbourhood Profile
Lakeview
Lakeview extends inland from the shores of Lake Pontchartrain with much of the area reserved for family-friendly City Park. Home to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Carousel Gardens Amusement Park, and the city’s own lush Botanical Gardens, City Park is a New Orleans gem and the perfect spot for outdoor fun with as much of a mix of culture and/or amusement as you would like. Beyond City Park more great excuses to stay outside beckon, whether on land or by boat. Developed a good deal later than most other New Orleans neighborhoods, Lakeview has a distinctively different look and feel compared to other parts of the city. Fans of mid century modern design and contemporary architecture particularly enjoy leisurely drives around the residential streets of Lake Vista, Park Island and along Lakeshore Drive.
