Lots to see and do, or just walk around. Many fine restaurants and bars- all different styles. Never saw it get rowdy or out of control. Bike friendly.

State Street has always been one of our favorite destinations in Madison. Over the years, it has changed -- becoming a bit more upscale in terms of shops and restaurants -- but it has managed to maintain its essence as a quirky interesting place to...More

We love to go to State St when we visit Madison. We just took our 12 and 11 year old boys to a football game and they saw and heard things that shocked them. It's all part of the experience but just be prepared especially...More

I entered state street from the UW campus end which begins with a series of food carts that seem interesting and smell great, but there is a person who is hawking about the ice cream experience and yelling so that i could still hear it...More

The Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream store has been tucked away on State Street since 1962. It’s one of those places that simply call out for you to return whenever you’re in the area. The homemade ice cream is fabulous, you just need to savor and...More

State Street changes every time I walk down it. Most the staples are still there. Food for everyone. The choices of ethnic foods are endless. Just want a great burger or a wrap? You have endless choices for those too. Shopping from as American as...More

A trip to State Street and Downtown is always a must when visiting Madison. Lots of shops and restaurants to visit. While you might see some "characters", we felt safe walking around in the early evening at least.

State Street is a happening place with a lot going on. I would say the only negative are the people constantly asking you for money. This takes away from the charm of the town. Food trucks are wonderful!

Definitely a great spot to visit in Madison. Vast majority of well known spots in Madison are here. Should try the Old Fashioned.

About 15 to 20 minutes. Worth it. May find places to check in between? We liked eating outside at the terrace there.

yes, a lot of them do, except the fish, snakes, and other legless varieties. if you're asking if you see people walking animals (dogs, etc.) on state street, then yes, but on leashes (the animals that is).
