The majestic Roman Renaissance-style State Capitol has the only granite dome in the U.S. and inside has over 40 different types of stone from around the world as well as murals and handmade furniture. The observation deck, open in the summer, offers views of the city and surrounding lakes. Capitol Square plays host to state events throughout the year including Farmers Markets and Folk Festivals.

The dome is simply stunning after years of restoration. Tours run daily and include many interesting facts about Wisconsin history and legislature. The sweeping steps into the capitol make a nice spot for lunch as well.

Lay on the floor under the beautiful dome with your loved ones. Your kids will never forget it. Wander around the beautiful stair cases. A perfect spot to spend a 1/2 hour

Very accessible to various places, great view overlooking Lake Monona. Parking for the downtown area was simple.

Well what can a person say about their state capital! It’s lovely and open to the public. I alway like to stand in the center and look up. It’s fairly easy to get to, just don’t get mixed up driving around the square

Did not do the guided tour but we were able to walk around ourselves and check out everything throughout including the onservation deck. Very neat building and big part of Wisconsin history

Actually, the tree is dragged (!) inside the Monday after Thanksgiving. It takes a few days to decorate it, and the official lighting ceremony is that Friday, this year, Dec. 1. (I've worked there for 16 years.)
