Good view of the capital & downtown from the northern shore (Atwood St) and a nice place to walk and relax across from Olbrich Gardens

Lake Mendota is quite large. One way to see the lake is by visiting the Memorial Union Terrace on the campus of University of Wisconsin. If you appreciate contemporary and modern art, don't miss the FREE Chazen Museum of Art, just 2 blocks away. Indoor parking lot entrance on Lake Street brings you close to both these attractions.

We walked along the lake by the campus. Very beautiful scenes. Not at all crowded. Nice for sunset, too.

We did the lunch boat ride - was nice. The clam chowder soup was to die for.. That was my favorite. Met nice people on the ride, the captain was great. No rowdies which made the trip a pleasure

We walked around and watched the ice boats play... this was a real treat for these visitors from warmer, southern states!

I've been boating (sailing) on this lake for over 10 years. What constantly amazes me is that it never seems busy or overused.

Lake Mendota is a beautiful lake which the The University of Wisconsin is located on. The fishery of this lake is outstanding with almost all Wisconsin fish species being present. The lake is healthy fertile lake which goes through cycles as all good lakes do. It is a great lake to visit and spend time on

Rent a bike (B-Cycle) and follow the path around the lake to the university campus. It's a nice ride.

I was back at a tour of UW, my alma mater, which hugs Lake Mendota. It was a brilliant blue and cleaning looking. In the past I've also seen this whole lake frozen over. It's a great lake to look at and to go out on.

I have been walking this path for years. They keep it cleared in the winter, so there is hardly ever a time where you cannot use the path. It is beautiful - the trees, flowers, view of the lake. You can do short parts of it, if you don't have a lot of time, or follow the whole way. If... More
