- BenjaminInnsbruck, Austria102 contributionsFun activity outside of ChuncheonThe rail bike tour is a lot of dun. You can wither get a bike for 2 or 4 people and cycle along the old train tracks. There are four tunnels with different themes and a short train ride with nice views in the end of the tour. There is a café at the the start and the end of the biking path. The shuttle back to the starting point/ subway station is included. Absolutely worth the money.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 August 2023

Clear instructions, easy to use (entirely man powered by cycling but really not arduous at all). Visited as part of a tour package. It was unfortunately, the least enjoyable part of the day. Nothing really much to see. We had a private bike carriage and it can be difficult if you're cycling for 2 people, especially if you ride with a child, so bear that in mind if you're a group of 2. I travelled with someone with a mobility issue and the bike pedals were too high up for them to contribute in the ride.
Families may enjoy this in the summer.
At the end of the ride there is a big train to board that will take you back to the way out

This was a great way to escape the city. I was in absolute awe with all of the greenery. It was about a 2 hour metro ride from Seoul and super easy to navigate. The Gangchon rail bike itself was such a unique experience and amusing from start to end. It kind of went by really fast, but I think it was still worth it to get a day trip in. After the bike portion, you ride a scenic train which I didnt even realize but that was also beautiful!

It is very far away even though we had a friend drive us there. Took 2.5 hours from Seoul.
You can take a train there. From Seoul, with waiting for the train and changing trains, I think it will be around 3.5-4 hrs to get there. Gimyujeong Station is the one you need to get to for this Gangchon Rail Park.
It was a nice experience but July is def too hot. I think Autumn will be beautiful. You need to pre-purchase your tickets beforehand with a time and date. The park’s website is all in Korean so I got my tickets on Klook. It was the same price.

Get ready to pedal and enjoy the scenery as well as the weather. You ride in a 4 seater tandem bike type of vehicle. The sturdier bikers stay on the right side where the brakes are located. The course runs up and down over flat and hilly terrain. You will go thru several tunnels which play alternating type of music from classical to K Pop.
Somewhere towards the mid point, a picture is taken of the peddlers which you can buy at the end of the stop as a souvenir.
2 thumbs up

Took ITX Train to Gimyujeong Station and purchased the ticket at the kiosk (since we didn't want to take risk if we were unable to manage our travelling time). It is advisable if you could purchase your ticket online via KLOOK or Trazy apps. While waiting for our slots, we spend our time at Book Station Cafe & Food and enjoying a cup of coffee. The departure time is - 9am, 10am, 11am,12am,130pm,230pm,330pm,430pm & 530pm (last slot ends at 430pm during winter)
We bought a 4 seater rail bike at 48000KRW and it is for 6km rail bike course (with 4 tunnels) and end at Nanggu Village, before transfer to Romance Train ride for another 2.5km. At the end of the ride, you may take the bus shuttle to Rail Park

Last time I was here at early winter (late nov), it was super cold on the ride. This time, I was more prepared this round and dressed warmly with hat, gloves and turtle neck. It was a much more comfortable ride.
The seats can be adjusted for short legs like mine. Loved the cycling. It was managable. It passes a few tunnels but the last one was too glaring.

Best to check with the park operator what time is the last ride booking slot during winter timings. Last slot is timed for you to catch the sunset which is lovely!
Will the rail bike be tiring for elderly?
adrianyong
Singapore, Singapore1,593 contributions
It is 2 persons in a carriage although 1 person's strength is sufficient to paddle it forward. If the other person is of average size and strength, then it is alright for the elder not to paddle. The momentum going forward is quite good so not much leg power is needed. Hope this helps.

If I visit on a Monday and want a 4-seater bike, do I need to reserve?
adrianyong
Singapore, Singapore1,593 contributions
It is on a first come first serve system. Need not reservation, sure that you can get a 4 seater ride. Only thing is that you may have to wait about 15 minutes if you cannot get on the first batch.

I'm not sure but the receptionist was quite helpful. We were late but they let us join in after we pleaded with them. Maybe they would be willing to store it in the office for you.
I booked a 2 seat bike but is it possible if I am the only one who ride the bike? I can not find parner for this

Show the bar code at ticketing office when you arrive. Please make sure you will arrive in time of your booking.
If you arrive later than your booking time they might not be able to give you ticket.

our group consists of two adults, and 5-year old child. would you recommend this attraction or not? Do they allow 3 people in the 4-seater with only 2 adults pedaling?

Yes you can have 3 persons in a 4 person car. Don't worry about strength or speed. The return stretch is uphill and that's when the electric engine kicks in to bring you back. The rail tickets can also be bought online for a small discount on klook.
