About
Tegalalang Rice Terrace comprises a series of cascading rice fields. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the area is especially popular during sunrise and sunset. Take your time to explore the terraces, visit the nearby Bali Pulina plantation, and have a go on the mountain-edge swings. To see the fields at their greenest, visit in March, August or September. They're also green in December and February but are slippery due to the rainy season. The rice terrace is commonly visited on a tour of Ubud which includes other places of interest like the Monkey Forest, Tegenugan Waterfall, and Tirta Empul Temple. – Tripadvisor

    Glorious Tegalalang Rice Terrace
One of those rare places that lives up to the hype, notwithstanding the rampant, overdevelopment right across the top of the ridge behind them which, fortunately, doesn’t spoil your view. The drive up here is deeply depressing - a narrow road crammed with brief glimpses of the terraces between endless shabby buildings clinging to every possible spot straining for a view. But, once you’ve parked, paid the fee and walked in, all is forgotten. Everywhere you look the terraces are superb, with near perfect, unobstructed views from every angle. There’s no one place to look, and there’s multiple paths and levels, so even on a busy day, you can still get that perfect shot, though you will have to queue to use the Instagram specific tourist spots If you pay extra you can take a flying fox, or even ride a bike across the valley, or be snapped on one of the many swings. You can walk down to the bottom and up the other side (but it’s not worth it as the views are all one way).

Have a Nice Lunch Overlooking Rice Field Traquility
Traveling with a family of four with college kids Decided to take a day trip to Ubud from Seminyak. We booked one of the many all day private tours offered from Seminyak area. As part of the tour we stopped at the Tegalalang Rice Terrace. The stunning Tegalalang Rice Terrace, part of the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province UNESCO World Heritage Site, comprises cascading emerald-green fields worked by local rice farmers. The Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud are famous for their beautiful scenes of rice paddies and their innovative irrigation system. Known as the subak, the traditional Balinese cooperative irrigation system is said to have been passed down by a revered holy man named Rsi Markandeya in the 8th century. Tegallalang forms the 3 most splendid terraced landscapes in Ubud's shared region, with the others being in the villages of Pejeng and Campuhan. The Tegallalang rice terraces alone offer a scenic outlook that spreads down before you and away to the far side of the valley. The high roadside location is cool and breezy and it’s a well-known spot for tourists to stop and take photos. Painters and nature lovers also enjoy visiting this spot, and there are numerous art kiosks and cafés near the ledge. I like the option of paying our own entrance fee (which cost $15,000 IDR/$1 USD) giving us the option of what we wanted to do at the place. I suppose the main thing that attracts tourists to come is to take instagram photos of themselves on a swing or within many of the baskets lining the ledge. There is a charge to take a photo on the famous swing on most instagram photos (which cost $150,000 IDR/$10 USD per person). Although, there are many free basket spots and "I Love Bali" spots along the ledge. You can also hike down to the terraces. Landowners may also ask for money if you want to walk across their rice terrace for photos (on the far side of the terraces). It's pretty small ($20,000 IDR/ $1.30 USD), so see it as a friendly donation to the locals to witness this stunning area. There is also zip lines and such if you desire at an additional price. I enjoyed just walking the ledge and eating at one of the small restaurants. The restaurants provide a great place to have lunch, relax and enjoy the rice terraces tranquil scenery. The restaurants also have their own free swing and "I love Bali" photo spots.

    Tegalalang Rice Terrace
This was a beautiful view of a rice terrace - simply stunning scenery with great swings and photo opportunities, seats etc. A little man working in the rice fields is happy - for a fee - to have a photo taken with you, or allow you to carry his baskets for a photo opportunity. It's steep and a little treacherous underfoot, parking nearby is not the easiest, but it is definitely worth the trip for the beautiful view.

    Gorgeous Rice Terrace, UBUD
So idyllic where I would recommend taking the time to walk through (wear old sneakers or closed shoes) to soak in the scenery and the tranquility of this place. This is one of the smaller rice terraces in Ubud (so not as many tourists) and our visit was right after harvesting (otherwise there would have been more greenery). We were told the larger terrace had not been harvested as yet but didn’t have the time to stop by unfortunately.

    Tegalalang Rice Terrace
I love the rice fields in Bali, it has an amazing view, very peaceful and lovely, rice terrace blocks are shaped in steps, there are many spots to take good photos. Everything is designed authentic to attract tourist interests. I actually love hearing the songs of different birds around. I like the swing even it was a wet and rainy season I could get the chance using it🫶At the beginning I was afraid of the heights but it was ok and safe no doubt. Stuff are very friendly, prices are very cheap. I only didn’t like the toilets. Could be better.

The most beautiful spot in all of Ubud!
The Tegalalang Rice Terrace is a gorgeous and pocket-friendly attraction to see in Ubud Bali Indonesia! I recommend 2 hours to have enough time to walk slowly throughout the fields. Bring your cameras, good walking shoes and small change for donations booths. Beautiful part of Ubud
Best part of Ubud. The fresh green color and the tiered planting are amazing! We had lunch close by where the seating overlooked the terraces There was some light rain, so we did not walk around much. As we drove we saw many rice fields, but the terraced area was very special. I have a new appreciation for rice! Do not miss!

    Great day
This place is very confusing as I read many reviews before going and my experience was nothing as described. What I figured out is that there are many entrances to the fields. It just depends where your transport drops you off or where you decide to start from. I caught a Gojek motorbike there which was great. Was taken to what seemed like an official, large entrance. Paid 50k and opted out of the packages for the swings, zip line etc. I was told to come back out the same way. The first part was very touristy with the swings and staff hooting as people swung. I proceeded to follow the trekking signs and spent a couple hours going up and around the terraces. Not a hard climb and much more interesting and authentic the farther you go. There are trekking arrows along the way. Finally I came to a temple and returned, circling around. There are many nice snack stops along the way which are picturesque. As you circle back it gets more confusing and ultimately directions were needed from one of the snack shops. Many people’s houses are literally in the middle of the paths so they direct people often. That’s when I realized there were different paths, starts and finishes. I never ran into donation boxes as described. Made it back and stopped at one of the restos overlooking the terraces. Gojek isn’t so accepted in the town for return rides so I ended up hiring an elderly local to take me on his scooter who was very sweet and thankful for the 50k. Locals will ask you if you need a taxi so it is easy. In sum I recommend taking your time if you can and meandering about for a couple hours at least to really see a good chunk of the terraces. Really enjoyed the day.

    Terrific to see
A wonderful way to pass a couple of hours. Entrance fee is now 25k btw which surprised my guide as he said it was 10k a few weeks ago. Still peanuts! Incredible views, pristine landscaping and a lover Balinese dog called “Doggy” to play with in one section! There’s a swing/rope section to take photos if you want a cheaper alternative to Aloha Ubud photos (which I took Aloha).

    A little tough with toddlers
The view is spectacular. In my opinion , it’s more suited for older kids and adult travellers. The steps (some parts) are steep. It didn’t help that it rained the day before hence some parts were slippery and muddy. Lots have changed since the last time I was here (more than a decade ago). Now it is commercialised and the ticket package seems to aim “insta worthy” photos with the swing / nest pose …

The rice terrace is really scenic, verdant and a pleasant place to spend about an hour. I've heard that this place can get quite busy so we explored it at around 9am one day and pretty much had it to ourselves. I can imagine that the steps (both down and up the hill) may not be easy for everyone so comfortable footwear is advised. There probably isn't that much to do here, except for taking in the beautiful views and snapping some pics

Although this is a UNESCO world heritage site and gives the opportunity to make beautiful pictures it is commercially exploited. You have to pay for every single extra.

Very beautiful and to me, unique experience. Walking through the terraces offers some great views and a great experience. There are several photo spots that have been taken over by vendors trying to get you to use their swings and such for an even better photo, which was a bit annoying. But overall this terrace is well worth a visit.

There is an entry ticket of 25000 ibr and one has to be ready to climb mighty steps to get at bottom and brave ones continue to other end of rice terraces for more views an a cafe. This place should be good early morning or post lunch with minimal sun as otherwise heat makes climb more dexterous. There are shops for water and refreshments and swing / photo spots which charges 50-100k idr for photo ops.

I was honestly quite disappointed when I went to the rice fields. It felt very touristy and the culture was stripped away in order to make a quick buck. Upon entering, there were signs that displayed different photography packages and clothes you can rent. When looking out into the fields I just saw a bunch of different swings and people taking "instagram worthy" photos on them. It felt fake.

Beautiful rice terrace with bright green colour which was a feast for the eyes. It is liberating to marvel at the beautiful view over a cup of coffee.

The views and sheer size of the rice paddies were breathtaking. It was amazing to see how rice, such a global staple food, is made. They don't offer guides to educate you on this process but typically your driver can share a good amount of knowledge.
They offer swing photos here - both single swing and couple swings are available - IDR200 for a single swing or IDR400 for a couple swing. Dresses are also available to rent at IDR100. If you do want a swing photo, recommend doing it here rather than the Aloha Swing. The views are so much more beautiful here and the service/safety is better too.
